Great luxury on winter backpacking trips in areas that don’t allow fires. Nice ambiance from the light, and heat too! May not heat like a fire, but the warmth is greatly appreciated on a cold night. Even used it to heat my tent setting just inside the rainfly’s vestibule (be careful if you do this!).
Really like the quality of this lantern as well as the minimal weight. Not sure I’ll bring it with me on solo summer and Fall trips, but with my wife, it’s a nice luxury. Definitely a “recommend”.
A really nice option to pack if you've got a little extra space and can spare the ounces. The lantern lights up a good size area even in pitch black and puts off enough heat to take the edge off, even in open air. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because there really isn't any variability in the light output, no matter how you adjust the knob. The light output seems to be pretty constant regardless of whether it's just barely turned on or cranked wide open. That said, I don't really mind much since I wouldn't use an omni-directional light source like this when I need to worry about light pollution, so I just leave it on the lowest setting that gets the light working and that way it saves me as much fuel as possible. It's a great dual-use burner, for heating up a bit of water as well since there's a lot of heat pouring out the top of the lantern and as long as it's just a small cup, then it will balance well enough. I would like it if the hanging cord could be detached completely in order to get it out of the way when you're not using it as it would prevent that from possibly being snagged and knocking the lantern over, but it's manageable if you coil it under the fuel canister. I do like having the option of hanging it so you can light up a larger area and keep the lantern far enough away from any potentially flammable objects, and I really like that it includes the cable to make this easy.
For the price, I would definitely recommend picking one up if you do a lot of lightweight backpacking. The mantles seem to be pretty sturdy to getting knocked around but I pack a couple of spare mantles (they weigh nothing) just in case my pack takes a hard knock and breaks the mantle and it only takes a minute to replace them. You should never count on this for your *only* light source, so worst case you use your headlamp while you get the mantle prepped and then you can just use the lantern.
Tiny, heavy duty, and light all at once. Knob is quick to fully open, but fine adjustments (barely open) will bring it down to candle glow. When a canister gets low on a stove, this will finish it out completely.
Kovea propane adapter works perfect with it, and will get brighter than iso, runs slightly hotter but nothing troubling so far, plastics don't get any warmer than usual.
Incandescent light is a welcome change from led lanterns, the heat is a luxurious benefit. The bag is coated inside, so we're a mantle to "dust" itself, it's well contained. That said, after a couple months, the original mantle is still flawless.
Recently purchased one, and have used it on 2 trips to the desert. Runs well on Isobutane, Uses the coleman clip-on mantles just fine. Really really BRIGHT at full blast. Even worked well in 35mph winds. Best thing about it is a small can of isobutane will fit in the lamp bag with it.
My new favorite piece of gear for winter camping. I try to keep things light, and I count my grams, but that leave room for a few pieces of luxury gear. This little guy tops that list. It's really great for shelter camping. Lit up our little Adirondack with charm. It also throws off some heat. I've boiled water in a 750ml mug, heated up my tent vestibule and dried out the legs of my pants in one go. If you don't mind a little extra weight, consider adding this to your gear list.
Small. Lightweight. Cable is convenient for hanging from a limb for area lighting. I take it on multiday kayaking trips where I pack like a thru hiker. After last year's trip, one of my buddies liked it so much, he got his own. Outstanding form and function.
I use this thing all the time on cabin trips. I'm always amazed at how it lights up a space. I love using the propane adapter to use up mostly empty bottles left over from cooking. The weight and brightness really is incredible.

Primus Quality
The Primus Micron gas canister lantern arrived and fulfilled the expectations I have of Primus' high quality. Came with I nstructions for both first use and regular use. Lights easily, burns cleanly, adjusts the pleasantly warm-colored flame/light easily, and the long cable makes it easy to hang without being overly close to something flammable. Max brightness is significantly brighter than an UCO candle lantern or Feuerhand kero/paraffin hurricane lantern.
The only cons: (1) The long hang cable gets in the way a bit when not hanging the lantern or packing it; and (2) The metal screen, while significantly more durable than a glass globe, does allow wind to pass through to the mantle, which causes the flame to flicker noticeably if the wind is stronger than a mild breeze (I knew to expect this).
All in all, a nice way to use up partial canisters.
This is a great back up lantern. Tough and small, it is easy to pack and easy to use as long as you are carrying the proper fuel. Not super bright but good for localized light needs.
