Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. 1) Go to https://www.dropbox.com/s/b9y0u3leon6on1s/libusb-1.0.0.dylib?dl=0 2) Download the file to your downloads folder 3) Find Terminal.app in spotlight and open it 4) Once the terminal opens, type cd ~/Downloads 5) Hit return, then type cp libusb-1.0.0.dylib /usr/local/lib 6) Restart the Configurator
That should get everything working A-OK! I'll be updating the Configurator guide with this these instructions in the next half-hour. Long story short if you're interested in the details, a tool called 'dfu-programmer' should have been looking for a bundled library called 'libusb', but was instead looking outside of the app bundle at the /usr/local/lib directory. We're going to work on a proper fix in the Configurator so future users won't have to follow the instructions above, but for now the instructions should get you running right away instead of waiting another couple of days for me to re-build the Configurator - and I know how eager y'all are to start using your M10-As :)
Again, apologies from me on the bumpy start, and huge thanks for all your patience - I'm going to get working on the handful of other issues that have been reported so far, I'll keep you all posted on my progress.
If you guys have any other issues, drop me a message via email or on this forum and I'll pick it up as soon as I get chance, and if you have any issues with the instructions above, let me know too, I'd be happy to walk you through it one-to-one :)
Cheers,
-JBL
I made sure my reset button was still working so I plugged it into my windows 10 machine and pushed the reset button, received the usb disconnect/reconnect sound.
So, just for clarity, you'd want to type: cd ~/Downloads Hit return, then type sudo cp libusb-1.0.0.dylib /usr/local/lib and hit return again
That should get you past the permission denied message, let me know if you have any more issues, I'll be around to help out :)
