The Deluxe Honing Kit from RH Preyda features a set of 100-percent natural Arkansas sharpening stones, which are quarried by hand to ensure the utmost quality. Scaled for convenient storage, each kit comes in a custom wooden box and includes a 4-ounce bottle of honing oil. To use a stone, simply add four to five drops of oil, align your blade at a 15- to 20-degree angle, stroke the blade three to 10 times, reverse the blade, and repeat the process.
Note: At checkout, choose between the Small Kit with two sharpening stones or the Large Kit with three sharpening stones (+ $10).
The Small Kit comes with a Soft Arkansas sharpening stone (400 – 600 grit) and a Hard Black Arkansas sharpening stone (2,000 – 3,000 grit). Use the soft stone to shape the initial edge of your blade, and use the hard black stone to polish it off.
The Large Kit comes with a Soft Arkansas sharpening stone (400 – 600 grit), a Hard Arkansas sharpening stone (800 – 1,000 grit), and a Hard Black Arkansas sharpening stone (2,000-3,000 grit). Use the soft stone to shape the initial edge of your blade, use the hard stone for a final hone, then use the hard black stone to polish the edge.
Founded in Chicago in 2013, RH Preyda satisfies an industry need for hand-crafted sharpening stones with a range of applications. Quarried by hand in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, each of its stones is made from 100-percent Novaculite—a material known for its density and unique siliceous structure. Since Novaculite’s prehistoric discovery, it’s been used to fashion arrows and axes, and today is used to make high-quality sharpening stones suitable for virtually any blade-edged tool.
