Um... whom even is this for? Any kit that includes a first aid book AND scalpels is almost certainly asking for trouble. If you need a first aid book, you need a much simpler kit. If you're prepared to treat real trauma using advanced BLS and even some ALS gear/supplies... put your own kit together that conforms to your specific scope of practice. This bag does look like a great place to put it all -- too bad it the kit was obviously assembled by someone without a clue.
activatorTo be fair though. It is better to be prepared for anything. I would certainly not know how to really use a scalpel and would need to consult a first aid book for about anything more severe than a papercut... However my wife a Veterinary nurse is well trained with a scalpel. But you are correct I absolutely don't want somebody working on my injury with a scalpel while reading the manual. Haha.
Subiesaurus_R3XYeah that's a fair point. I stopped my critique there, but honestly lots of red flags. 5 tongue depressors and 8 pairs of what looks like cheap latex gloves? (I could be wrong, but if they're good quality, why not say so?) I mean, it just doesn't seem to be planned out as a trauma kit at all. If I came across an MCI and someone had this kit, I'd use the hell out of it. But it's far from optimal if you're expecting trauma. This is a first aid kit with some inappropriate stuff in it. A trauma kit would find something better to put in the calamine lotion pocket.
"no vaseline-impegnated meshes to deal with burns.." You don't know what these are for and you're complaining about people that don't know what they are doing? Ugh...
MotorradOuch! So true. Burns? Really? Funny, I have never actually seen petroleum gauze used for burns. not protocol as far as I've seen. Rip open the pack toss the gauze, and make 3-sided burp valve for penetrating chest wounds with the sterile side of the package. What was the gauze for again? Haha.
phht. yes, I bet you have. and I guess you then secured it with tegaderm? hahaha. ok ...but not on my ambulance you won't...and certainly not on a trauma...remember, this is trauma we're talking here. If you roll your trauma Pt into the trauma room with xeroform slapped all over his partial thickness burns, you're gonna get ridiculed. Even in the absence of sterile water and burnsheets it's unacceptable...at least for about the last 35 years (despite what Kendall tells you).
That's cute that you know how to use google(bravo!), I suggest that you use it a bit more and maybe you'll find out that the ONLY reason that xeroform is in your trauma bag is for use as an occlusive dressing and then just the foil wrapper.
I appreciate your enthusiasm, just not your posturing attempts to impersonate someone who actually knows something. ugh.
I'm sure that was all very informative, but you lost me with "wagging our dicks". I'm telling you the way it is. We're talking about trauma, not treating boo-boos.
I see that you are out trolling...or 'policing' as you seem to regard yourself the expert on 'non-experts'...a truly selfless and noble endeavor...like a modern day Don Quixote...bravo!
Since you're sooo 'curious', in EMS, 'trauma' means: get them to a trauma center. Here's the protocol provided by one of my local EMS agencies. Enjoyed 'getting real' with you, champ.

Motorradactually TRAUMA as defined in every dictionary/ encyclopedia AND in the medical profession is an injury (such as a wound) to living tissue caused by an extrinsic agent regardless are severity.. any first aid kit is a trauma kit. but then a snarky EXPERT such as yourself obviously knows all those legitimate sources are wrong....but meh...super tactical Rambo know it alls spending thier time on mass drop poo pooing products they never intended to buy.....figures. .. thanks so much but i gotta run..there are windmills that need tilting.
warchyld67Oh man...you really are my hero right now. Selflessly offering yourself up as an idiot to 'protect the universe from those who poo poo things they aren't going to buy anyway'. Hey, it's a mouthful, but I know you're up to this worthy task. ...you've got that 'looking like an idiot' part down solid.
warchyld67according to you then, a TRAUMA CENTER is where 'an injury (such as a wound) to living tissue caused by an extrinsic agent regardless are(sic) severity' is cared for. Is this correct? I'm pretty sure that it is not.
The answer, Lord Bradford, is that there is a big difference between a trauma center and an ER. A Trauma center is an ER, but an ER is not necessarily a trauma center. There are different levels of trauma center as well. It pretty simple, but apparently the concept is a bit out of reach for you, you phony fat sack of shit.
MotorradLOL. well, I'm pretty sure... I'm going to suggest the latter is true. Though, in fairness, ERs are Trauma rated IV-I...but nobody ever calls a IV-III ER a trauma center. It's semantic, and you can bet Lord Derpa Derpa was not aware this was the case.
That's cute that you know how to use google(bravo!), I suggest that you use it a bit more and maybe you'll find out that the ONLY reason that xeroform is in your trauma bag is for use as an occlusive dressing and then just the foil wrapper.
