The 800+ is much better the 800s seems to have lead wobble.

Hey @JasonLee -- That's great news. rOtring experienced some problems on the production line for all of their models and were not shipping new stock for some time.
Our understanding is that stock provided for this drop is all up to standards, but I definitely want to hear from anyone who is not 100% happy with the quality.

JonasHeinemanPosted a request to support. I may have to cancel my 800+ pencil drop order but hoping I can find a resolution. Thank you.

I'm in love with this pencil! It's such a pleasure to use, I've ordered a second one.

@argross, @ChaosHey, just a heads up the box isn't triangular. The one in the picture is for the Rotring 800+, with that black rubber stylus tip. The standard 800 comes in a rectancular box like this:

It's cardboard, but there's a spacer around the edges, like a box in a box sort of, so you could throw it in a bag and know that it protects the pencil decently well.

I just got my 800 (not 800+) and it DID come in a triangular box. Maybe they come in both?

An update for the group, we have just been informed by the vendor that the units are backordered due to production issues in Japan that recently arose. The vendor will have a more solid ETA for the mechanical pencils in the next couple of days. In the meantime we are contacting other vendors in an effort to find the items and get them to you faster. Rest assured that we will keep you updated throughout the process.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 5/13 or sooner if something comes up.
Hey @griz326 -- This has been a headache for everyone who joined the drop, and for our Logistics team as well. We thought this inventory was available for immediate shipping, so this is two layers of bad information that we've been working from.
That being said, the Expected Shipping Date is always posted in the bottom of the drop - in this case, for the drop ending on April 23rd, the date given was May 7th.
I am not in any way suggesting that this delay is acceptable, or that your assessment of value vs. waiting time is off-base. My point here is to make sure that expectations are in line with how Massdrop operates. There are many advantages to buying here as part of a group; however there are, and always will be, risks involved with ordering items that we don't have on the shelf.
I am working closely with @elimelendez and our logistics team to find the fastest resolution we can. Your comments are valid, they are being heard, and we are doing everything we can. Thank you for posting here so that we're aware of the frustration and can work to improve fulfillment.

Bad reviews? That must be the 600. This one retracts the tip. I love it. I had the original one years ago. I left it in the shoulder of an attemped mugger down in Mexico. I doubt that he will ever attack an American with a short haircut again.
baleisenWouldn't a stationary tip be better for this specific use case? :)

Can anyone tell me what's so great about this product compared to my Kuru Toga? It seems to cost much more and only has 3 stars on amazon.

very bad reviews on amazon, does anyone who bought one have feedback re: play in the tip?

partysnackI have 2, both do have much more play in the tip than sliding-sleve style pencils (Rotring Rapid Pro 0.5 and TWSBI Precision 0.5). The amount of play is similar to the amount in the uni-shift 0.5 and TUL 0.5.
Further, it appears that if the top is twisted to force the tip out a bit further, the wobble is eliminated. Examination of the retractable tip shows a slight increase in diameter further back, which I expect is supposed to reduce wobble. Unfortunately the slightly thicker portion is not normally far enough forward.

These would be awesome for me if not for the tiny, covered eraser. I use the eraser too much and any really dislike any mechanical with that type of design.

jlrvyou cant get refills but those are really only meant for small corrections. I usually use mine in tandem with a BOXY. There is also a click type eraser that is the shape of a pen/pencil which is quite nice.

TheProfosistI use the Clic eraser also, but now more for art than for work. When I used the .5 on old fashioned columnar pads, Pentel sold tiny green erasers that fit into my pencil. Pentel may have some that fit yours.

This pencil is utterly superior. I want another one or two. .7 is much better than .5 and even better than .9. And, I just really didn't realize how much better a mechanical pencil could be. Wow. Thank you.

JohnK.BatesDo you mind sharing what makes the 0.7mm the sweet spot? I always liked 0.5mm for the thinner lines.

NyquistRateJust sharing personal opinion, I generally always tend towards the 0.7 (along with others in my household and my teams) because it's more visible for general writing and drawing. Only if I'm drawing a precision sketch or writing in an extra-small notebook (like the Moleskein pocket) would I tend towards the 0.5 or smaller.

A drop for the 800 lead holder would be epic.
