Is this good enough to make my own keyboard? Looking at the keyboard kits here on Massdrop that need to be put together. Or would this be something better? http://www.hakko.com/english/products/hakko_fx888d.html
Thanks! ♥
Kiiddo
I personally used this iron to build my infinity ergodox. It is perfect for putting together a keyboard kit.

Awesome, thanks so much!
got it with 7 tips + power adapter from ali express (7x10=70$ 124-70=54$ with a choice for eu/us plug) will work nice with my adjustable power bank qd 188-alt :D

What's everyone getting in terms of tips? I feel like the conical one is a must, no? But what about the other 2?
Kailec
I've been using the included BC-2 with pretty good results, though it is not optimal. I thought the conical tip would be a must-have, but from what I've researched, they don't carry much heat in the point. I've never used mine. Again, from research, the chisel tip (D24) is probably the best all-around tip (see this video: https://youtu.be/J5Sb21qbpEQ). This drop reminded me to try to find a couple of the chisel tips.
Ended up just buying the extra tips at banggood.
how this is related to SEEED? all around the world knows that this is TS-100
sorry, dear massdrop, i paid $45.55 for the soldering iron + $5.46 for a power adapter on banggood, this _indcuded_ shipping. of course i did't get extra tips that i don't need now. so no, not this time.

p.s. i'm not saying banggood has a better deal, just that i got exactly what i needed without paying extra.
tivasyk
You are right, the price is cheaper on BangGood with currently running coupon code "WELDTOOL" even if you add all of the tips. (don't add things as a package on BG, if you do the coupon will not apply) Even more so if you already have a spare laptop adapter laying around with the right connector or a universal.
tivasyk
Thanks for mentioning this. I already have the iron, so I went to banggood to get a couple of D24 tips.
Is this the same soldering iron but under a different brand? they seem identical

The design is open-source as well is the firmware. They are the same exact thing. Thanks for the find, I did some research after you posted this, and that's what I came up with.
SirEdwin
Double checking too I see at least the extra tips are about $5.00 cheaper per tip if you purchase through this drop. So I guess that helps :)
I like my first one so much that I'll order a backup. However, I also want to add TWO D24 tips. I don't see any way to do that without ordering a whole second kit. Am I missing something? (Probably)
This was just one of the most amazing soldering irons I have ever beheld. Really happy with this purchase. Heats up very quick and solders stuff.
I bought my first SEEED Mini soldering iron early in 2016. I was skeptical because I already have a nice Weller soldering station with different tips. It's robust, sturdy and gets the job done. But there was an instance where I needed to solder some leads in my car and working with the Weller made it challenging. It's big. Sure, I have had some basic soldering irons, but they all stopped working, so I no longer had a compact one.
Since I acquired the SEEED, I've been using it exclusively for all jobs. I now actually regret having the Weller because it may not get used again. I'm so happy with the SEEED, that I got a second one from a second drop in 2016 for a friend. When I joined the drops, I chose to get the additional tips and I have now used 3 out of the 4 so far. Love this tool!

Has anyone tried this thing for jewelry? Mainly gold (14K).
Anybody can tell me if it works with 230v?
Calamarik
Specs from seeed's own website says the power supply takes 100-240v https://www.seeedstudio.com/Mini-Soldering-Iron-US-Standard-(Shape-BC2)-p-2494.html#

Great, thank you
Already made several cables for my headphones with this iron. Definitely and upgrade from my old radioshack brand iron.
I brought this one the last drop it works great and heats in 2 mins great product
I received my order and I'm using this soldering iron this week and I'm pleased with the purchase.
The iron heats up quickly, it's easy to use, and the controls are intuitive. If you're doing small electronics work like I am, the iron gets the job done and I appreciate the mini-size in my cramped workstation. It is worth calling out that small size does indeed translate to a low thermal capacity. Consequently, I find myself sometimes raising the temperature to compensate, especially when soldering to larger components. [Yes, I am aware of potential consequences and I am careful with sensitive components. Quicker joints are cleaner joints, though.]
I'm rolling along smoothly with my project. Would recommend to others.

Just switched mine on. it in it was all working all display lit up then I pushed button A and it started heating the iron too 300 degrees Then the display faded out. Now there is no display on the LCD and it wont come on. If i connect via USB the PC picks it up and the config file is viewable. There is a green light on the power adapter though =(. Any ideas?

Why the hell would anyone buy this? Spend the extra $30 and buy a Hakko station.
JA_MAN
Because you have to spend the extra $30? Not everyone has a dedicated area to place a Hakko Station at. Even then this can easily melt the majority of lead solder anyways. The only problem you may encounter is melting 97/3 or 96/4 silver solder. Other than that it will get most jobs done without a problem.
JA_MAN
I move my soldering iron around often and like to carry it with me. This is significantly easier to carry and works just about as good as a Hakko station to be honest. Has been a fantastic buy for me
Does it support 110/230v?

It's the exact same thing, I have one, only difference is power supply is not included
Technically, SEEED's version is the knockoff and TS100 is the original. However, both are identical since the design is open-source and are pretty much the same all around.
I wish it would cost under 50 $, I bought one year a go and it failed on me, so I wasn't happy that I paid nearly 70$ for it.
Mine came in today. It came with tip BC2. Totally missed that in the description. Assumed it came with B2, the cone shape that comes with 99% of other irons by default. Shame on me for assuming. Even so, it's annoying to get an irregular tip in the box and have to spend extra for what should be the default...
