I've received my watch and been wearing it for about a week. When being moved around, it clicks as though the oscillating weight is hitting something. Also, the power reserve is less than 12 hours. I seem to recall that it should be around 40 hours.
Is this normal, or should I be looking at a warranty repair?

CDNGuy1. I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but if you purchased this watch through Massdrop there isn't a warranty unless stated in the description, only a 30-day window to return the item to MD.
2. I own a few watches with the 7sxx series caliber in them and I don't hear a clicking sound as the rotor winds the movement. That said, without hearing exactly what your watch is doing, I couldn't say for sure if there's an issue.
3. In regards to the 12 hour power reserve you're getting, at the risk of stating the obvious, are you sure the watch is fully wound? Since the rotor on the 7sxx winds bidirectionally, it's actually a very efficient winder but you do need to be wearing it and moving around a bit for a good 8-10 hours per day. Short of that, and knowing that you can't handwind this movement, just hold the watch in your hand with the dial facing upwards, and swing it in a side to side arc for 5-10 minutes. That should fully wind the spring. If you're still seeing only a 12 hour reserve after doing that, then I'm afraid the movement might have some issues.
With the massive number of watches that Seiko makes, and largely by automated means, lemons do slip by QC from time to time; the law of averages in effect. Good luck.

My first Seiko was the SNZG13 (SNZG17's non DLC/PVD sibling). Then I saw the lume shot of this watch with lumed numerals. Wowza. Instant love.

KrazeeLemurI ordered this model (SNZG17J1) from Creation Watches last week, 4 hours before the drop ended. It would have been delivered today, but nobody was home to sign for it, now I have to wait until tomorrow.. $165.00 US, no tax, free shipping.

I want to like it. The minute and seconds hand are too short. It is the older cal. 7s36 which doesn't hack or wind with the crown. That just makes it easy for me to ignore this one.

I know. I have had many watches with 7s26 series movements, but I'm to the point that I have been there and done that. Interested in newer and better now.
BTW: I'm glad you didn't perpetuate that old myth of the "bulletproof" 7S26 series. It is an old fanboy's tale at this point and I have killed more than one without using bullets. It is the basic movement in the least expensive automatic watches Seiko makes. They sell better.

BF_HammerThere are some things that I would describe as "bulletproof", watch movements aren't one of them. ;-) That said, and speaking strictly from my own experience and the watches I've owned, I'd prefer to have a 7Sxx on my wrist than, say, a Miyota 82xx. The Miyotas tend to be a little more accurate out of the box but the "Miyota stutter" drives me nuts, as does the loud winding rotor of most of their movements. But, like you, I'm at a point where I'm interested in better calibers. Cheers!

I love the look of this watch, but I am a bit concerned about the lack of warranty.
I just received a watch from massdrop and it arrived in perfect condition, but it has no warranty card. I knew that when I purchased it, but seeing the missing card really drove it home.
Should I be concerned about the lack of warranty or is that a false sense of security?

DCTrainerAgreed with watchkook that the lack of warranty is not a good trend for buyers, and is something that MD should make up for on their end by providing a warranty themselves. If you want to purchase this watch, you might want to also check out the Creation Watches vendor online: only $5 more there, with warranty, and you'll have it in hand before this drop ships.

JTrubsOften manufacturers will not honor an "international" warranty in the US (or certain other markets with strong local distribution units). For example the US arms of the camera companies will not repair a camera with an international warranty in the US -- you would need to have the camera repaired overseas (and not by shipping to/from a US location). I think Seiko operates this way -- someone should confirm.
Thats why why some sellers offer third-party warranties. Amazon for example offers warranties from Asurion.

Geez, I just did the drop on the Seiko 5 SNZG15. This would look so good on a NATO strap. Gotta pass this time. :(
