Total insanity to pay the $40 "J-premium" for a watch intended to be "budget-priced" to begin with!
To illustrate, take this quick IQ test:
The United States mints (produces) coins in various locations. If you wish to purchase a Quarter minted in Denver, the price is twenty-five cents. Knowing that, how much would you pay for a Quarter minted in San Francisco?
A) twenty-five cents
B) thirty-three cents
If you answered "B, thirty-three cents"-- you may be a J-customer!
Seriously, if you believe a J-version is worth a premium, spend it on a premium Seiko. These are good-quality, inexpensive watches. Paying extra won't make them better.
Well for the SKX line the dial is different. It has the extra text on it (21 jewels). If you're big on that kind of stuff... Go ahead pay more.
All I'm saying: in your opinion it is not worth paying extra (not for me either: unless it's proven to be a huge difference), but anyone who has the money for it and feels strong about having a J version? Why not. Resale on J versions is also higher so it's not that bad of an investment. Even with the Seiko's 5 line...
It's someone's personal choice and your mileage may vary 🙄
I know, I know, “history” and “heritage” and blah blah blah, but I still think Seiko would sell a trillion more of these if they just got rid of that stupid “5”!!!
I am curious why you made this comment? Can you share what you know? They are obviously not the same watch because they are built in different places. Japan on a longer runningorw stable process with local designers support and in a culture that excels at precision manufacturing. So I believe you mean these variables have been equalized between the 2 offerings somehow?
coolerkingFrom what I understand, reading and listening to various sites, specifically Marc's observations at long island watch, although the J Seiko's are made in Japan and bear this status both on their dials and movements, and the Malaysian made K versions do not, the watches are essentially the same. Except in price. For a thorough blow by blow comparison check out The Urban Gentry YouTube video from Nov 2015, SEIKO SKX009J vs. SKX009K. Hope this helps.
brohoward71Checked Jomashop and the 19 model was $137.17. For NY residents like me that have to pay sales tax that's $149. Either way not cheaper that $129.99. For those obsessing over "J" vs. "K", I've had many Seikos over the years and never found any qualitative difference. https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-watch-srpb19.html
Carlangas1970J has Japan Made on the dial, K's are made in Malaysia or other Seiko factory.
But it is the same watch and undergoes the same quality control.
