Product Description
The Seiko Cocktail Time’s design is the product of a special collaboration between Seiko and Mr. Ishigaki Shinobu, an award winning Japanese bartender. Based on a cocktail from the master mixologist, the SARB065 is characterized by its blueish sunburst dial and 6r15 automatic movement Read More

I joined Massdrop just for this watch. I have been lusting over it for a long long time and the price was the best I have seen for a new one. I eagerly awaited my arrival, and despite the dismally slow shipping (I live 1.5 hours from the NJ warehouse and it took 6 days to get to me) I was thrilled to open the box and carefully unfurl the watch I have desired for years. Sadly, this turned out to be a good from far, far from good experience. While the watch looks spectacular in certain light, my date wheel is slightly misaligned so the bottoms of the numbers are cut off. When the minute hand is on the hour, the hour hand does not line up with the right indices. I am shocked by this, as I own two other SARBs which align perfectly. The strap feels like cheap vinyl, and the deployment is a joke at best, and barely functional in reality. I can only conclude this watch is either a knockoff or a factory second. Given the public opinion of this watch is so high, I cannot fathom how I, and so many others on Massdrop, seem to have received "anomalies". This is not the product I have researched and seen countless pictures of online as I have drooled over it for years. This is either a fake or a QC reject, and due to Massdrop's return policy and the fact that the warranty is no good outside Japan, I am stuck with a $370 lemon. Thanks for my first and last drop. Extremely disappointed.
True, but unless it's a GMT watch, they can do the exact same hand position in AM instead of PM with no misaligned date window...
On the other hand such photos show that the date starts to change sooner (some watches flip that almost instantly close to midnight, some take hours to move it gradually) - not that it even matters... Also if the date window is still, you cannot be sure whether the date changes later or the watch is photographed set to AM, so I think taking photos in AM is just better for aesthetics and prevents misunderstandings like above.

UsernameWasTakenExcellent point. Not sure why they wouldn't take it in AM.
On a side note, I picked up this watch on Amazon Japan, since having it ship to America and back makes no sense. It does indeed start changing dates come 10pm, although the bottom of the number just touches the edge until about 10:30pm.

Price is weak. A 5 second google search found me a better price. MD is getting really weak on pricing lately. Most of the items Ive been interested were selling lower on amazon and or with a simple google search.

Agreed. Hard to find lower pricing and shipping with reputable sellers. Few, if any, domestic sellers of this watch other than fulfillment through Amazon. Many JDM sellers do charge for shipping, or bake their shipping into a higher price. Add to that the risk of a customs import duty, and this is a pretty good deal. In my experience, not as much of a drop in price on these models from MSRP. I'd love it cheaper, but then again I like all watches cheaper.

kpcorbinagreed. i was not saying earlier it was not "a good deal," but for $15 more i can have it fulfilled through amazon, here by wednesday and have a 2 year warranty (via amazon, though i have never had to deal with their watch warranty service). if there was a further price drop here OR if i knew where it was sourced (i'd be willing to pay just based on that) i would already be in. as it stands now, i may just bite at amazon for $380 (already have prime).

I would be all over this drop but until Massdrop addresses the concerns of those who already have received watches with the dent issue, I can't risk it.

@individual Not at all, it may look like that from viewing angle, but certainly not misaligned. Here's a picture I just shot today.

The dial is one of the most beautiful dials out there! If you are underwhelmed by the aesthetics of the strap (I was) try changing it to a brown strap with stitching or even a thin mesh(or even another black leather strap). It went from "well this is nice" to "its drop dead gorgeous!" in my opinion of-course. Pictured are two really cheap straps I use for my cocktail time.

Strapcode's mesh bands are more "hefty" and lend themselves more to diver style watches. The more "fine" milanese mesh like the Hadley-Roma go very well on dress watches like the Cocktail Time.

What is the benefit of an automatic movement VS quartz. I would be all over this if it was quartz???

MehereReally there is no benefit. There are some things that make mechanical movements more attractive than quartz, but in general quartz movements are cheaper, more accurate and more durable. That said, the mechanical movement in this Seiko is highly regarded as a well-finished, accurate workhorse. You would have to spend several times the price of this watch to obtain a better, or even equivalent watch with a Swiss movement.
Aside from that, the design of this watch is just really admirable. It's nicely proportioned with a classic style and just a touch of Japanese aesthetic. I've had my eye on this one for several years, but I'm afraid I may be destined to admire it from afar.

MehereAnother small benefit is never having to replace a battery as mechanical watches don't use them.

My watch stopped working after 2 weeks with only desk/office wear and no knocks or damage. Watch repair shops have appraised it (without opening the case) as likely a problem with the hairspring or balance wheel and have quoted around $250 to fix. I have contacted customer support who said that they would "reach out to the vendor directly to source the replacement, which could take up to several weeks depending on the vendor's inventory availability and responsiveness. For the time being, please hang on to your item and we will be in touch once the vendor lets us know how they would like to proceed."
Massdrop responded quickly to my initial support request three days ago, and there has been no update since then. I will post again here once this issue is resolved. My hope is that my reporting on how they handle this issue will help others decide if they want to invest $360 in a watch from this site.

xmorphicxI wanted to be sure I updated this post, and it's good timing as I saw the watch just dropped again.
So... three weeks later, and I'm very pleased to report that Massdrop has replaced the defective watch. I was nervous because it took a bit of time, but it makes sense considering that this a Japanese Domestic Market watch and they needed time to contact the vendor as well as arrange shipping. Regardless, Massdrop took an unfortunate situation and made it right and I'm very happy as a customer. They communicated quickly with me throughout the process and that was appreciated. I will continue to spend money with Massdrop, and I hope that hearing my experience helps others feel confident doing the same. Thanks, Massdrop!

Just wondering... Is sapphire really too much to expect from seiko at this price range? Cuz i thought i saw another seiko on MD a couple weeks ago that was cheaper, had a similar style and had sapphire.
Just wondering... a newbie to watches.

Jef8770At this pricepoint anything sapphire will have flat and thin crystals. Seikos's Hardlex is excellent and IMO the better choice for very domed look. Trust me. You do NOT want a sapphire crystal in this watch.

Has anyone that has received their watches noticed any dents in the dials? I have read that this is a common problem with this model. I am hoping the dials on these lots are clean so that I can join the drop.

mqchauMy sarb065 has a flawless dial, but if you google "sarb065 dent dial" you will see a few examples with really small dents. I'm guessing the chance of getting a dent in your dial is quite low so you should be fine :)

I would have liked to get in on this drop, but: 1. The dent issue - kinda apprehensive. As @Synaptixx points out, it is actually visible in the promo video as well (check video from 25-29 sec, when the reflection passes over from 2 o'clock to 3 o'clock). 2. Massdrop support is pretty terrible in terms of response time. I'd emailed support ten days ago about a problem with my Seiko SARB017 watch, still haven't heard back from them; so I don't know if my issue will be resolved favorably or not. If not, then I'd rather not get in on this drop. I'm usually very pro-Massdrop but as I said on the SARB017 thread, CS is annoyingly slow. :) @ChristopherJ @IanAnderson

Ah the screw down crown was getting stuck sometimes. I would have to unscrew, then try to screw again. I didn't want to live with fear of breaking the crown on a two month old $300 watch. :)
That's a bummer about a $900 package being lost. I'd be so scared. D: I hope you get it soon!
