Forget this Sigma DC nonsense--Sigma DG is the only way to go!

agentcrmIf you don't, you should--at your earliest convenience!
Which is to say, unless you know you're going to be in APS-C for the long run, why spend a lot dough on lenses you'll have to leave behind when you upgrade? Better to put that money towards a full-framer and the glass you'll want when you do.

RayFOr you actually want the focal length as advertised. As long as the mount is compatible there's no reason you can't use APS-C lenses on a full frame camera and vice versa. Don't forget DG lenses are typically a LOT more expensive. (30mm DC $499 vs 50mm DG $949)

agentcrmAnd what do you get when you mount an 18-35 APS-C lens full frame camera?

RayFWell Nikon's auto detect the DX (APS-C) lenses and run in DX crop mode. So you get the same result you would with a DX camera, just not using the full sensor.

agentcrmVery few good reasons for buying a full frame Nikon for three-plus thousand dollars and then shooting crop frame. You can drive a Ferrari at 45 MPH all day if you wan't to--but then again, why would you want to?

RayFThis lens is an excellent buy if you don't want to dive into FF size and money. It's equivalent to FF 29-57mm f/2.9 (so basically a less zoomy 24-70 f/2.8 lens for a fraction of the cost), and is one of the few lenses that get good sharpness out of crop cameras.

TaudrisYes, I agree with the value of the lens (I'm a Sigma fan), but my argument was against using crop lenses on a full-frame camera. You can do it, and if you owned a few and just bought FF camera, you probably wood--but only until you got caught up with FX lenses, at which point, it wouldn't make sense. Which is to say, if you just bought a new FF camera, there's no reason to go out and buy new crop lenses just because they're cheaper than FX lenses!
