In case anyone is interested, the company does not seem to be promoting a vegan lifestyle, just their profit margins. The "classic" belt in this drop, made of polyurethane, is sold on their site along with a full grain leather option for about $60 more. I was looking because I have been losing weight steadily for a while now and am waiting on a similar Kickstarter. The project uses full grain leather and comes with a titanium buckle . I got an early bird for $65 but it looks like they will be selling them for more than the full grain Slidebelts on their website. Surveys went out last week, so hopefully will not be long but of course they will miss the original December ship date. Kickstarter after all.
Selling toxic stuff on mass drop . this belts chemical makeup has been linked to cancer and it is plastic like Nster101 stated
Wow ok. So massdrop sells a "vegan leather belt". It's plastic. You tell me what is worse for the environment when you inevitably throw this thing away in 2 years?
For those asking about durability, this is after wearing the belt about 3 times a week all day each time for about 16 months now. It is the Black version with the Gunmetal buckle. You can see that the buckle has held up quite well. The belt itself is just starting to show signs of splitting at the rear loop point. All things considered, it has worked out well and the buckle is classy when paired with a suit.

What’s the width of this belt?
„Leather“ XD
Nope - belts are leather - I’m out.

Since you asked - imo anything vegan is stupid ! Ok?
DavidV
Let me be more specific - the vegan movement/lifestyle is good - I have no issues with it however... when more globally, people like peta tell me I am evil - this pressures other industries to be sensitive. Now you go into a Meecedes or BMW dealership (cars I own and prefer) they now come standard with fake leather - forcing me to have to special order cars at a higher cost. This is due to greed AND no doubt a desire to appear animal friendly - but whatever the reasons, it’s a major major major major pain.
I have nothing against veganism but polycrapolene is no good for this application
$30 for a polyurethane/PVC belt? These sell for around £7. Now they don't come in a fancy box that you throw in the bin, but then they don't charge for said box.
And stop calling it 'vegan leather', that is the stupidest hipster nonsense phrase.
Fluph
Real leather is the nonsense, since it implies horrible animal abuse.
mateitudor
So it would be better to throw the cow skin away instead of using it? That would be the bigger nonsense.
Happy to see Massdrop offering some vegan product options in addition to the many leather options which other massdrop customers enjoy. Not sure why all the animus towards vegan products? I can only theorize, that like the gay bashing homophobe who is secretly gay. These vegan bashers are closet salad eaters and are jealous of people living a plant based lifestyle.

I feel the same way. The marketing speak is just irritating. The same way anything black that fits in your pocket or on your belt is suddenly "tactical".
ponagathos
Yup, that's another 😂
I was unaware that there were enough vegans to make it commercially viable.

I wouldn't want to try and raise a family on what MD is going to make on this drop. Seems to appeal to people who are partial petroleum products (or don't see the difference to leather) more than to people, who in conscience, don't eat (or wear) animal products.
j4m35
Dont bust our balls about our preference to not wear dead animals skins like a caveman. And we wont bust your balls about your preference to play with $50 titanium tops
I'm extremely here for high-quality vegan goods.

I bet you're really fun at parties.

Sorry—booked for the rest of the year ;- )
I got one of these back in August. It’s FANTASTIC. Easy to size, quick to fasten, and after at least six months’ daily use, looks as good as the day it arrived. Highly Recommend!

My belt has itself held up well, but I only use it 2-3 days per week now. I see what's going on with yours, and cross my fingers that such a pressure point doesn't develop on this belt (it has on other belts of mine over the years). As for the buckle: mine has picked up some scuffs, but not visible from a distance. Yours seems to have fared better: no having to squeeze through tight spaces? I seem to do that a lot.
All these people here having hissy fits for massdrop offering a faux-leather belt. If you don't want it, that's fine - don't buy it.

Oh, oh! I didn't even read your reply to me even less!
Lets be frank, you butted your little butt-head into this conversation all by yourself, with nothing more to offer than name-calling at the get-go.
Referring to commenters (moi) who were less enthusiastic about plastic belts than you, as people having a "hissy fit", isn't exactly constructive. Of course, if that's all you've got to say, you're certainly entitled to participate--but you can't complain about my posts anymore than I can about yours--this is an equal opportunity discussion site, is it not , ma petite pop-tarte?
PS: Meilleure orthographe française maintenant, que j'ai eu le temps d'ouvrir mon ordinateur portable ;-)
People might well troll and it is entirely acceptable to me. To explain, this company is offering a plastic belt. Maybe its as good as a name brand plastic belt, say $15 worth, but that really is the limit. What this company is doing is re-imaging a plastic belt as a 'vegan' product. Now if you are daft enough to fall for such nonsense that is up to you, but some people may feel the need to point out that an over-priced plastic belt is just that, over-priced.
How can you call these vegan leather belts when there is no leather used ? They are either leather belts or non leather belts. I think you owe your customers the truth.

Unfortunate.
AdmrlAhab
That's what the say about you!
Coincidence?
This should be removed - its offensive
varkie
disagree, but 90% of the childish vegan bashing comments on this 'discussion' should be removed.
This belt is on my "not approved" list.
What about the Mocha/gunmetal option similar to the one in the picture (#6 I believe)?
Those are some nice looking belts.
What is the width of the belt ?

I’ll chance an answer here among the hilarious fray - I bought one here about a year ago, back when they were called “SlideBelts Ratchet Belts: Classic Collection”. It is 30 mm wide (1 ¼”).
Here was that particular drop:

Thanks man I think 30 mm is going to be too small.
No such thing as Vegan Leather.

No such thing as leather, just an animal you abused for "fashion".
