Just a question, Since i am looking to get into the audiophile style of things.
The quality from my PC just doesnt give me the sound i want, would this AMP/DAC be a good starting point? and if yes, which headphones do you guys recommend using with it?
Kinda new to the audiophile stuff:D
DamaeI say yes. I do not own one of these, but pretty much all SS stuff sounds the same unless it is made to not be flat. This should be fine, unless you have some power hungry headphones, as this isn't the most powerful.
DamaeThis is a great entry DAC. In fact, I think it would suffice for all but the pickiest of people. I bought mine directly through Amazon (you'd save about $20 here, so it's worth it), and I have been more than pleased with the sound. I've owned the FiiO E10K, and the Schiit Fulla 2, and I prefer this DAC/amp to both in terms of overall sound and look. The Schiit may sound a hair (and I do mean a hair) crisper, but this has a more neutral sound to me, and the price is about $40 cheaper. It would power most easy to moderate impedance cans, like the X2's, MDR-V6, and likely even the HD 600/650's.
DamaeIf you want to get a good pair of audiophile grade headphones, you can't go wrong with the Grado Labs sr80e's. (About 100 USD) Not the best looking pair of cans, but they damn sound best for their price. Another good pair of open back headphones are the Phillips SHP9500's, better build quality, slightly cheaper as well. (IMO still prefer the sr80e's, but both are great.)
For a pair of fashionable yet great sounding headphones are the Sennheiser Momentums On-Ear. Not exactly audiophile, but if you want to look good while wearing headphones in the public, definitely the way to go. They come in a variety of colors and styles. Another good pair of fashion cans would be the Bowers & Wilkins P3 or the Sennheiser Urbanites One-Ear.
Another thing: don't buy the MTH50x's. A bunch of wannabe audiophiles will definitely tell you to buy them, but don't. They are good for studio usage, nothing else really. You won't be enjoying your music very much if you buy them. They're just too neutral and their highs hurt your ears far too much to really enjoy music.
IonicNovaThanks a lot for the reply:D will take a look at the headphones you mentioned!
Sadly i cant find the Philips SHP9500s at any store that ship them to the netherlands :( sad times.
