anyone wants to discuss why you should pay for balanced output? it's a DAC. There is very short connection to amp, so no interference/noise issues will be solved. It is DAC and should output nominal 2V via RCA, so no power issues should be solved with balanced output either. So why then? You, audiophiles, have to think, at least a little before reaching for that wallet.
bravomailWell, the main reasons tend to be noise and interference rejection that may be induced . And at the end of the day, any properly balanced circuit design will outperform an equivalent SE setup. Although it's up to you to discern if the difference is audible enough for you to care to go down this path. A well designed amp like the THX 789 already sounds amazing and has incredibly low distortion for SE. Balanced in this case will yield more voltage and control for headphones and DACs (that need more than 2V) and "theoretically" reject any potential noise that could be picked up. The length of the connection doesn't matter (unless over 5m) in this scenario as we are trying to potentially mitigate or eliminate any added noise from other places in the chain.
bravomailYou're only considering the benefits of a balanced CABLE connection. Using a pair of dacs in a balanced arrangement reduces the noise at the source. @jaydunndiddit is talking about the circuit as a whole, from source to dac to amp
