I just received mine. Yet this unit doesn't seem to come with any valid warranty. The warranty card says (in Chinese): ... 14) not applicable to products not sold by Sony China ... Warranty area: Only for mainland China (excluding Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong)
Is there any difference between that and this one? https://smile.amazon.com/Sony-ICD-TX800-Digital-Recorder-Remote/dp/B07J5VRZX5/ seems like there's a color and slight price difference, but I meant in any other way, thanks!

I can't say for cettain, but I'm willing to take a wager that dice the design and model number are the same they're probably the same model. Question is whether the MD price is worth it
Any updates on the shipping estimate? 2/15 is a quite awfully long wait for a mass produced electronics.

Hello? Any updates? Who is the massdrop staff running this drop?

I got the confirmation that it just shipped.
I am really looking forward to this... after all the positive reviews I ended up getting a zoom h1n and I gotta say I was a bit disappointed... handling noise, form factor, over zealous auto level, long start up time, horrible menus, no hold option for gain level... the list goes on. Not to mention that although it does have a studio sound, my viewers actually prefer the on board audio from my a7sii for its ability to capture stereo ambiance sounds and capture my voice which sounds much more crisp and natural than the zoom h1n... I guess this is all just a preference thing but when I tried the Sony Icd ux recorder to match the sound profile of my on board audio I realized I made a huge mistake buying into the zoom hype. Now this is on sale for half the price and I am wishfully hoping that I can use it to clip on my talent like a lav mic without going through all the hassles of getting a lav mic out, untangleing the wires etc etc and get the same crisp audio I expect from Sony... maybe wishful thinking but for this price I am willing to try
pretty sure my phone can do this
Try the new Sony ICD-TX800Digital Voice Recorder--now with twice the surreptitious flavor as before--and, it's ME-TOO Movement approved!

A tiny form factor digital voice recorder.... with a physical and software remote control. Oh, but it's for meetings guys, just in case you want to catch your boss's funny joke as it farts from his lips. Pretty sure this was fully intended for spying on people, straight up. Shady.

Yes, probably still going on but the public became board with the topic and it succumbed to juicier news/tid bits. Suppose we can thank trump for brining it back to our attention when he *discovered* Obama tapped his wires? Just a hunch, but I think he was confusing Obama with Alexa...
Audio is a rich source of information. You can even steal passwords from people, and credit card numbers, since a lot of people mutter them when typing them in.
I'm considering something like this for recording conversations with friends, to upload clips as podcasts. Does anyone have experience with this specific recorder? I bought a similar small, portable, square recorder from a crowd funding website but it died after a year of light use.

I do not have experience with this recorder, but at this price point you may be better served by the Zoom H1n or the Tascam dr-05.
Is this an audiophile voice recorder? Don't start stretching the category here, MD.

Since it records at CD quality, one could argue so. I actually went to check a review of this and it sounds pretty nice. This could be in the Tech category though...

But is it ULTRA HD audio quality?
