I would consider joining the Drop if it was the Sony IER-M7 under $500.
Still zero sold with <9 hours remaining? I know most people can not afford this or don’t think IEMs are worth this much but for a brand new Sony IEM I am surprised there aren’t 5-10 buyers so far. selfishly this makes me happy because maybe they’ll consider an actual massdrop price drop. There are so many good IEMs in the sub $500 category in the last year
Tips size is wrong, I think it should list as "SS S SM M...", M is repeated for no reason.
I own the Andromeda S and Solaris. But I can tell you the IT01S punches way above its price point and at that price everyone should get a pair that wants a crazy good dynamic earphone. This is the thread about them on headfi. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/it01s-iem-a-new-view-to-your-music.894073/
@RareAirs Look into the $200 IBasso IT01S. These would shock you just how capable a $200 Single dynamic can sound now a days.. Highly recommend. Don't over look these just because there are cheaper.

Have you heard the Sony ex1000s or Campfire audio Lyra II or Vegas? I owned the Lyra II I got on here for $400(steal)and loved them and fell ‘love’ with campfire so I purchased the Cascades and Andromedas so my Lyras weren’t getting much use so I gifted them to a friend. Many months later I regret that only because for some music I miss the Lyras sound with the DD but don’t want to spend a ton to get the Vegas or atlas.(I don’t think the Lyra II will show up here again as it seems CA is kind of slowly moving away from making the older models)
i have the Andromedas so I am going to pass however a $999 price tag would be tempting. although I am looking for a nice DD IEM to compliment my multi BA pair

I wasn't a huge fan of the R1 so it's nice to see a revision on it. I'll have to check it out but it still says in preorder status on their site. My Lyra IIs have a beryllium driver but the Atlas and Vega both have ADLC which are quite strong and can REALLY move some air. The best thing is their speed. They have the tone, texture, and tonality of a DD but bring the speed (and usually) decay from a BA; the best of both worlds. What's wild is something like the Atlas can go from playing classical to hip-hop and not miss a beat. They are arguably my most used and varied IEM for this reason. And they sound oh so big and toned the wacky peak and energy that is prevalent in the Vega (although I don't think it's as bad as some make it seem).

I don't have any experience with the Atlas though you continue to peak my interest lol. I got in on the first batch of Zenith's to go out, they should be shipping out the rest of the preorders in the next week or so. I'm going to be giving them some ear time vs the Solaris here soon, I'll let you know my thoughts on that as well.
I’ve listened to them, honestly the DM6 sounds better to me... there’s no way I’d join this drop.

Whats your DM6 setup?
  • What cable you're using?
  • What Tips you're using?
  • What DAC/AMP you're using?
Thanks
i disagree 100% I tried the Sony M9 and the Noble encore A/B over Christmas in a local hifi store using my my Walkman A1 as a source, the M9 were far more realistic and accurate. The bass on the Noble was artificial sounding in comparison. The M9 are better in terms of balance , tonality than my custom UE18. I bought a pair. I have previously listened to the K10 too and was not convinced they were better than my UE18s.
not a good price for a massdrop, they go on sale under $1k on accessoryjack, current price is $1090, really disappointing on you MD.

Whats your opinion / thoughts on the HS1551s? anything else you could compare it to?

I have Andromeda’s too. I use both with the stock campfire comply foam tips, but L on the acoustunes and M on the Andromedas. And they both sound really good off my iPhone 6S. In terms of sound, they actually sound quite similar. The sound signature at least. (Keep in mind the L comply foams drastically changed the same of the acoustunes, I prefer them over all the stock tips). Anyway, soundstage and imaging is fairly equal, there’s a lot more bass and impact on the acoustunes, the mids have this really nice thickness and texture but don’t sound muddy or fuzzy, just really chesty. Maybe a little more treble in the andromedas but the acoustunes tend to have a more realistic treble to me. (Bells sounds like bells, etc). the acoustunes are a little more distant sounding with these tips though, also I reckon detail is about the same but andros pull ahead in terms of detail. if I was to compare with the stock tips, the acoustunes then easily lose out in soundstage and imaging. And the sound changes to be a lot more mid-upper mid forward, but also a lot thicker - too much. For me they become too thick but the upper mids made them sound clear at the same time, it’s a bit different. They also get a good bit more bass, which again is a little too much for me. Detail sounds worse on the acoustunes, but that might be an illusion from the tuning. As always take all that with a grain of salt. That was all just a random stream of thoughs. Hope that helps!
Have anyone heard the Sony IER M7 IEM? is it worth the $800 Price tag?

At what Price point do you think it is worth the Dive :)
MidnighTempest
From my brief listening experience, I personally think m7's closest competitor is w40/ue900.
Is very expensive ; no way
Gos8
I'll take two hahahaha
Damn, these actually made it to MD; z1r soon? Not much of a discount though, depending on where you are, you can actually get these for cheaper. Anyways I've listened to these extensively on multiple occasions and while I would not consider these the best sounding IEMs at this price range, the overall package is quite appealing. The signature of the M9 is a warm, easy-to-like tuning. The bass you get out of these for a pure BA is pleasantly surprising; Similar to that of my Zeus-R which has 6 drivers tuned for lows but where M9 impresses the most is treble clarity and accuracy. The soundstage is not massive, and the details are not phenomenal but it just sounds so damn clean and holographic. In terms of value, as I said, you can do better in terms of sound, MD being a big reason for that. I've owned the original Noble K10 as well as the Empire Zeus-R, both of which have a MD version for significantly lower than original prices and go cheaper than this. The Zeus especially is tuned similarly to the M9 but it just gives you more detail and room while providing similar levels of clarity. If you compare it to commercial options, it fairs better, but I still think there are better sounding options, here are some for reference:
  1. Unique Melody ME.1: Similar tuning but the speed and clarity of a planar driver is just another level. Clarity of the M9 is great, Me.1 does it even better; If you can get it to fit properly.
  2. InEar PP8: The king of reference sound at this price point. Imo, it sounds better than the K10, which is why I sold mine. I consider the K10 better than the M9 so this logically falls into place.
  3. Lime Ears Aether: Perhaps the biggest blow to the M9 is that the Aether came out in 2015 with a 5 driver setup, is tuned almost identically, but is just better all around. The imaging and clarity of the Aether is superb for an IEM, at any price range. Detail retrieval and soundstage is better than the M9, and it comes with bass/treble tuning switches.
Anyways, the M9 is still great for people who are looking for a a single premium option that's well built, looks good, comfortable, comes with all the proper accessories and plays well with basically any genre. Those that are deep in the hobby that are just looking to pick up another high-end IEM, I think you have better options, especially with all the new E-stat tweeters hitting the the market this year.

What $300 IEMs are you listening to? I picked up some Lyra II's for a bit over $300 and they are much more proficient than anything KZ has to offer. Hell, from memory I would eve say the CA Comet was better and I wasn't a huge fan of their FR (but loved the build quality, comfort, and accessories). I have yet to find a KZ, TFZ, Fiio, etc. IEM that makes me want to keep them. They're all decent, but there is always something wacky going on with their tuning or QC that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Dunu, DITA, and HiFiMan are really the only chinese manufacturers that release quality IEMs, in my opinion, but they are pricey.
jaydunndiddit
Indeed Hifiman is pricey. They consider themselves a very high end brand. BTW, Fiio just released a new earbud with 4 BAs from Knowles per side. You might want to check it out.

Just ordered a pair of brand new IE800 a couple of hours before for less than 450 dollars, when I saw this drop. I’m not sure about the retail price in the US, but 1200 dollars is not at all a deal for me. As someone in this thread already mentioned, this thing sells at around 1000 dollars here in China, with warranty of course. I have been waiting for a deal at less than 750 dollars and I guess that won’t take long.
IER-M7 too pls
desutruction
Listened to both of these and the bulky and more expensive z1r at an audiophile show. Trust me, the money you save from m7 won’t be worth it.

Can vouch for this. If you're going to buy one of these 2, it should be the M9. The M7 is really unimpressive for a $500 triple driver. It lacks all the qualities that make the M9 great and doesn't really have a character of its own either.
Holy mother! Serious props to Massdrop if these aren't grey goods. I missed out on the Zeus again, then purchased another IEM two days ago, so I'm going to miss out on this one. Shame, because I'd be all over this. Again, well done. I hope this isn't the last we'll see of the IER M9 on here.

Because I haven't seen this IEM below $1375 in the US yet. Also, kudos for the reference! I totally (unintentionally) set that up!
(Edited)
My guess is that it's grey, too. And if that's the case, I'm much less impressed. If I wanted grey goods, I'd go to AccessoryJack. But if it isn't...
