Why doesn't Massdrop have a cycling community? Because all the bikes were stolen by the lock picking community. Wakka wakka wakka

starterI've never actually seen anyone pick a bike logo, I have however seen someone walk down a street with a block of cement on a bar and a handful of bikes... I don't think picking was the problem

Mine arrived yesterday. HATE IT. It is waaaaaaay too complicated to open. Even with instructions, I haven't even been able to open mine after trying for over 5 minutes. Whoever came up with this design was an idiot. Complete waste of money.

He didn't say its hard to open he said "It is waaaaaaay too complicated to open. Even with instructions, I haven't even been able to open mine after trying for over 5 minutes"! I've got one I know it works, its NOT COMPLICATED. Besides I'd rather have it tight than falling out all the time. My statement stands, if you can't figure out how to open the tool good luck picking the lock. Thx anyway for assistance, But it ain't difficult to figure out even for this dumb redneck.

OkieneckYeah I bought one and I hope mine is tight as hell too. Really would hate to lose that piece and have to replace it.
edit: got it. it's legit. get it. Picks are nicely profiled. Sturdy construction. I could probably run over it in my truck and it wouldnt damage it at all. The pin is a tension thing but it is well done. Not likely to fall out but easy to work with.

chungbucketI highly doubt those are the same quality. Many of those cheaper copies have been tested and they bend and break....not good when you are trying to pick a lock. You get what you pay for.

Why are all the lockpick sets US-only? Canadians need to unlock their stuff too!
I can get you a TiPiK set, but it costs more as it's 100% Grade 5 Titanium - https://www.massdrop.com/buy/tikey-tipik

Did anyone mention that carrying one in many US locales is illegal, and could mean jail, forefeiture of assets, fines, and/or legal costs?
AudiophileBobI'm sure you don't even know what half of what you just said means.

I bought this as it seems like a great little set. However I'm quite nervous about having this as an EDC item. Should I for some reason invoke the ire of the cops and they search me, I'm afraid this little tool could send me to jail. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I'll probably just leave it in the glove-box of the car should I need it in a lockout.

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/page-79.html#docCont It's near the bottom of that page.
Possession of break-in instrument 351 (1) Every one who, without lawful excuse, the proof of which lies on them, has in their possession any instrument suitable for the purpose of breaking into any place, motor vehicle, vault or safe under circumstances that give rise to a reasonable inference that the instrument has been used or is or was intended to be used for such a purpose,
  • (a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years; or
  • (b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

So as long as you're not in circumstances that would lead the police to believe you were illegally breaking into any of those places, then it's fine to call them whatever you want. You can even break into those places so long as you had a lawful excuse. The "lawful excuse" part is probably because the entire locksmith industry would be illegal otherwise.

Literally same price and with a free practice lock. Also so you dont have to wait a month http://www.lockpicks.com/catalog/product/view/id/7682/s/jack-knife-pick-set-free-brockhage-clear-padlock/
ChaosPaladinThank you. Sometimes I think Massdrop or any of these companies think we're stupid and do not check their product and see if we are actually saving money or check other website's price. Had enough of Massdrop's shenanigans.

I lost the tension wrench off of my set. Is there a way to order just the tool or do I have to purchase the whole set again?

Lol, I got into lockpicking after picking open the most secure door in our house with a pen and paperclip.

I like the way you think. Unfortunately, I end up breaking all the combs in my pocket from all of the keys I have to carry around for work.

reesI will add my two cents. I'm buying this to add to my edc. Naturally, I would rather use real picks if I have them because they give much better feedback however this beats the thin steel one I keep in my wallet.
As per opening locks, these can get you into a good 95+% locks in the us I would say. You could do crazy things like medacos with this set if you made a tool to spin the pins and were very lucky.
I would only by this set if you already had experience picking.
