Product Description
Taking inspiration from the world of yachting, Spinnaker watches combine elements of sophistication, power, and of course, the sea. The Cahill Diver is easy to read at depths of up to 200 meters, with an aesthetic that harkens back to divers of old—not to mention the SP-5033-04, SP-5033-05, and SP-5033-06 styles are only available here on Massdrop Read More
I really don't understand any of the negative comments about this watch. I have owned over 80 watches or thereabouts ; one thing I find common in the buying process is that you look at the watch, check the specs and if it suits you and the price is right you buy it. Seems pretty straight forward, so why complain about the depth ,the mineral crystal etc. Are some of the buyers illiterate?
As for date setting, strap, bezel movement - well on the watch I received they are all fine; in fact this watch punches well above its weight easily at any level up to its RRP of around $400 usd. The quality of finish on this model is excellent and the lume easily one of the best I have experienced. Even the display caseback is colour coded to the rest of the watch carcass.
The only minor negative comment would be that the markers at 6 and 9 are probably 20% too large, but that really is being ultra picky and the sort of complaint one would expect if spending over the $1000 usd mark, and if it really is a problem then don't buy the watch!
I have the Sp 5033 05 colour spec and it looks fab!
This is a really nice watch. My daily wear is a Tudor fastrider which I love but I saw this on massdrop and really liked the look with the retro dial and gorgeous leather band. The price was so good I couldn't pass it up. My wife commented on how nice it was and it really is very pleasant to look at and the time accuracy is only slightly fast at +2 seconds per day which is really very good. Energy reserve is right at 35 hours.
The watch is thick which is a great change up and it's not "weapon" thick like some of the Invictas I'm seeing guys wear these days.
I'm actually looking at getting another Spinnaker with a bronze case if they come back up on Massdrop. Highly recommend.
This is a great looking watch and keeps accurate time. It looks retro which is the reason I purchased it. I have yet to dive or even swim with it. Mostly wear it with casual clothes and get a lot of complements on it. Usually when I dive/snorkel/swim I take my Seiko SX7000 because it’s proven to be bulletproof over the years or my Berticci A-2T for the same reason. Overall a cool competent casual watch
Solid watch. Looks good and feels good. Ceramic bezel takes it up a step from other divers in the same price range. Bezel rotation is decently positive. Nice that the date wheel is black. Strap seemed okay but I'm not crazy about brown so I changed it out to a black Filson.
The watch itself was what I expected at this price point, looks good with decent finishing and it keeps good time. The main problem I had was with the band. The dye used bled and turned my wrist brown. I contacted Spinnaker and they demanded pictures to prove the band had turned my wrist brown. Then they wanted me to pack up and ship (at my expense) the watch so they could verify the problem. Sorry, not shipping off my watch and risking damage/theft for a simple band replacement. Most companies once they saw the pictures, would have simply sent me a new band and maybe asked for the old one back but not these guys. I replaced the leather band with a rubber tropic strap and haven't looked back. Watches are a good value but CS sucks.
You get what you pay for.... Don't believe the MSRP of $400. I would never buy a Spinnaker product again. Looks good from far away but up close the finish is rough and the details are generally low quality and misaligned (e.g. the centerline on the bezel doesn't line up with noon, etc). I don't have confidence in its durability either but to be fair that remains to be seen.
The quality control of this watch left little to be desired. Not only was the bezel misaligned (which, at the time of this review, is also visible in the very pictures used for this drop) but the bezel also stopped rotating after a few weeks. And overall the finishing is a bit rough. I give it two stars, instead of one, because, from a distance, it's a decent looking watch, albeit derivative (but so many watches are, anyway).
It's a gorgeous watch with a quality NATO strap included, but it's not water resistant at all! I went swimming with it and didn't get more than 4 feet below the surface and now it's filled with mosture. Not what I expected from a dive watch
Overall pretty meh. Really liked it from a value standpoint when I got it, but now it’s been sitting unwound on the dresser for at least 6 months. Not high quality at all... but what do you expect for the price? Crown feels cheap and tinny. Reserve is non existent, certainly less than 24 hrs let alone more. Tapped the bezel on a seatbelt buckle while getting out of a car and it cracked. One of the pips isn’t completely straight and the bezel isn’t perfectly aligned to 12. Not really the watches fault. Mine for thinking I’d be getting quality for such a low price. Shoulda bought another Seiko. Or saved for another high end watch (my dress watch is an IWC Pilot and it’s stellar).
My least favorite watch that I've bought since getting into watches. Thicker than expecting. Finishing is poor. Looks cheap. Kept time fine, but never stayed on my wrist long enough for it to matter. Watch photographs much more appetizingly than it looks in person.
