Product Description
Designed for audio professionals who demand absolutely clear, neutral sound, the Status Audio CB-1s are an excellent alternative to pricier studio headphones—in fact, The Verge says they might be the best headphones under $100. The 50-millimeter drivers provide true-to-life sound reproduction without adding any bass, midrange, or highs, while the soft and thick ear pads offer pressure-free comfort for those long listening and mixing sessions Read More

Got a pair of these from the SA site a while back. I gotta say, for me they live up to the hype fairly well. Within this price range I don't know if I've ever heard another pir of headphones that sounded so clear and smooth. These have handled anything from classical MQA files to crunchy hardcore punk CDs without an issue, drawing out all of the details from a violin string and overdriven amplifier alike. I use them either with my LG V40 or on my desktop with an SMSL X4.

My Somic MM163 after several years of use. I really liked it back then but with new sheepskin pads (90 mm) received a few days ago, basses sound muddier. I much prefer the hifiboss / blon B8 which sounds better/cleaner and looks more solid. Treat it gently when opening it to put it on your head or it will show its weak point :/

So mine just came from the post and I have been using it for the past few hours. I am quite surprised with the sound quality of these headphones. They are on par with my Audio Technica ATH-M30x. One gripe I have with these headphones is the jack. Like the ATH-M30x, I can't plug it on my Samsung Galaxy S9+ with the protective standing case on. Despite it, I can't recommend this fine headphones enough.

Bought these from Status before drop had them. So I can't review but I'll tell you. They're my laptop headset. They sound really good. They're very comfortable. They do color the sound quite a bit but I enjoy it The positive: They're very nexpensive. Mine came with 2 cords and I actually use the spun one. They sound great and are really easy to power. The bad: The build. They're like.... a crappy plastic toy. But I've had them over 6 months and no issues whatsoever. They just feel really really cheap. And I just bought the Blon 8 for the same price or very similar and honestly the build on those blow these away. I can't say I doubt reccomend these and I doubt anyone would steal them Lol. I say, buy these like I did just to have around.

Update: Just a few month later the Crack on the headband has cracked even further and now my CB-1 have now reside to being backup headphones. I stand by them sounding great for the price, but build quality is a huge letdown Been using these for 2.5 years now and for the price they're worth it (in terms of sound). However, some things to note: -It's all plastic with maybe a bit of metal on the cups. That's not neccessarily a bad thing but on mine the plastic in the slider has started to crack. -Status has had a history of not being completely honest. I cannot tell if this is still true, but they claimed that instead of spending money on advertising, they spent money on R&D to make great sounding headphones. What they actually did was rebrand some ChiFi headphones. That's not neccessarily a bad thing as there are many great ChiFi headphones and you get real customer support from Status. I have not been able to determine if the CB-1 are rebranded headphones. My Status Audio HD One and HD2 have both snapped (twice each). This was apparently a very widespread problem which prompted the HD2 to be discontinued rather quickly. That being said, Status has covered me for every single replacement. You won't get that kind of support if you buy their ChiFi counterpart.

LD_TypeI don't know man, great customer service and honestly I haven't seen any headset like this. So I really do think they created it. I think it sounds great for the price and mine is about 8 months old and still rocking. Yeah it's really plasticky and cheap feeling but comfortable and sounds great. I gotta say, I think it's a buy all day.

piedrafriaThis is a bit late of a reply, but I found the original headphones. They're called the Somic MM163 and if you look them up you'll see it is the same headphones just with branding.

These things are very, very neutral-sounding. Pads are pretty uncomfortable to me; can't wear them for longer than an hour. Decent for the price.

My friend has a pair of these. To my ears they are pretty analytical without warmth, slightly v-shaped but what they said about their soundstage is accurate. Nice and massive
QwervyNo offense, but these cans are pretty far from analytical. They are quite warm as they are rolled off in the sub bass, and have a big mid bass hump that extends into the mids a bit. Add in their shelved treble which makes them lack any air or sparkle. Even going by measurements, they're a take on a V shape . Still, for the cost, one could do a lot worse. They remind me a lot of the Meze 99 but a few steps behind in all regards. If one can spend more, the Meze is built better and sounds better, hands down.

jaydunndidditHm... Maybe I'm getting confused. I remember I didnt like the highs/high mids because of how analytical it made them sound but I do agree that the mid bass was boosted which is why I said it was a v shape. This was a while ago though that I listened to them so you are probably right.
Worth noting that as of Dec. 04 that these are still on sale at StatusAudio for $47 (40% off site wide promo right now) and free shipping in U.S. https://www.status.co/products/cb1

Manu29The bass is tight and not overpowering. Its definitely lacking if you like to listen to EDM or Rap music but is perfect for gaming. I bought a vmoda boom mic for them and have been using them as a replacement for my steel series sibera headphones that broke a few months ago.
