How does the pencil work? Does the tip retract? Does the bolt advance the lead or retract the tip? Hard to tell in the photos, but there are none with the tip retracted.

Chris..aNo, the tip does not retract - the bolt advances the lead and you can also hold it down in order to slide the lead back in to stow it for travel.
The tip (silver colored bit) is part of the pencil insert and you can swap out the pencil insert with either a 0.5mm or 0.7mm lead advancing mechanism, if that helps explain things at all. (I picked up one of these from the kickstarter)

Chris..aThe tip does not retract. The bolt advances the lead when you press down on the bolt.
