Very sad this drop didn't work out. I may try again if it becomes available.

Bought this on the last drop. Plug and play on OSX (late 2012 MBP) and iOS (iPad4). Sounds about what I expected connected to Shure 846 buds. Its a good DAC. Could NOT get it to work on Android (tried S6 and S8 with OTG cable) without using the TEAC app. On Windows, I could only use it with the TEAC player or ASIO in foobar. The limitation I experienced on Windows and Android makes it inconvenient since you have to switch between this DAC for your audio played through the TEAC application and then another device for other content outside of the TEAC player. I couldn't ever get it working with Spotify connected to Windows through USB. Only working solution I found was to use it with optical out on the PC to the TEAC DAC.

The latest firmware listed on TEAC's website for the HA-P5 is v1.01 dated 2016-10-06. My unit was running v1.00 out of the box according to my iPad. I updated the firmware but it did not change the behavior when connected to my Windows or Android devices. Note that the firmware release notes states v1.01 is only an LED fix for the battery indicator. I didn't pursue getting to work any further connected to USB since TEAC made no claims it would work outside of their TEAC application for Windows or Android. If all units work like mine, then I wouldn't recommend against buying it when connected to an Apple product or through optical cable to any product. I would recommend against buying it when connected through USB to Android or Windows as there are other options that probably sound just as good but also work on those platforms.

nghiasaysMine works perfectly fine. Tidal, Spotify and foobar. I just installed the driver before connecting the DAC to the PC and everything went without a hitch.

How is this model compared to the HA-P50 ? The latter had such a laid-back sound with poor soundstage, it almost sounds like a transistor radio. The better your headphones are, the more laid-back it sounds.

This.
It looks interesting, but without knowing the output inpendance, how are we supposed to make an informed choice?

The description of this DAC-amp, along with the legendary build quality of the TEAC line are very attractive, but I would like to hear the opinions of users. Anyone? I have the ifi iDSD Black Label which has the Burr-Brown sound I prefer, but it is overly fiddly. I suspect this design has better ergonomics. Is this true? What should I be aware of? (I paid a bargain $375 for the iDSD BL, so this would be a direct comparison.)

Would this work as a DAC for a phone running Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 if I install USB Audio Player Pro? My phone supports USB OTG.

I am seeing a very big gap in between the cap and the main body shell. Is that normal or just the typical build quality of the product. Now days everything is CNC machined I'd think the fit and finish should be perfect given the price of the product.

fallenmigEvery single photo of it online has the same gap, so whatever the reasoning, it's a conscious design choice.
I would prefer it flush as well so as not to get dirt/lint/etc stuck in there, but I guess that's just the way it is.

fallenmigI will take a look at mine when I have the chance.
It's been a little while since I used it, but I don't remember anything objectionable in the build. And things like that drive me nuts, so if there were a big gap like that, I would have returned it if it didn't seem right.
