Sorry total rookie question here, is this considered a headphone DAC/amp specifically or is it a DAC/Amp that happens to have a headphone out? I'm under the impression that there's a difference, and I'm looking for a headphone DAC/Amp that can push the T50RP's. If I'm totally off base here, please by all means correct my understanding :D

SupersportThe UD-301 seems to be a combination of 3 things: a DAC, a headphone amp and a pre-amp. There are no analog inputs, so both the headphone amp and pre-amp will only take input from the built-in DAC. They can't be used independently with an external source.
It won't drive passive speakers directly, but the pre-amp output can drive either self-powered speakers or a power amp + passive speaker setup.
I'd say it's first and foremost a DAC, but how much effort/expense was directed towards either the headphone amp or pre-amp sections I don't know.
I'm not really familiar with the T50RPs, but I have a vague recollection that they're low impedance but need a lot of current. If that's correct then the UD-301's max. output power of 200 mW into 32 Ohm may not push the T50RPs quite as far as you'd like.
