A new kind of fidget toy, the Orbiter from TEC Accessories features three parts: a neodymium magnet sandwiched between 6AL4V titanium end caps and a chrome steel ball. Thanks to the center disc, which is made from a neodymium magnet, the steel ball magnetically circles its outer edges, like a moon orbiting a planet Read More
I look at my Steam account...
Even that can't stop my ever running brain or body. I don't even call it hoarding as I use everything almost daily, referring to gear. I'm losing it. :D
jesus...what??????
Why is this a thing...and why do so many people have disposable income... ;_;
It's like watching people play warhammer...and knowing that each figurine costs upwards of 20$(for a set, usually), plus paint, brushes, time, etc.
guess i might be done with massdrop. Thx for msrp pricing plus shipping costs. Awesome service you provide....where can i get zero discount on inflated msrp plus shipping cost.....Massdrop!!!
Seems to me that you get that msrp is b.s. So the only important question is: are you gonna buy it at the price given or not.
Because if msrp is b.s., then so is the "discount". All that matters is the price given vs YOUR decision and the value you associate with the products.
If the msrp is $500 but the "discount" price is $50 vs another product or website posts a product msrp $100 discounted at $45, are you gonna get the greater "discount" percentage , the better price or the more reliable vendor, or the faster shipping?
It's up to YOU to decide!
Tired of everyone complaining about something they like but can't afford. This, compared to other fidget toys in cheap. Mine arrive a few days ago from the first drop and I haven't let go of it since. It's a great thing to carry around all day. The materials feel awesome in my hand and there are a bunch of different ways you can fidget with it. Anyone that complains about MSRP or anything of the sort should promptly be ignored. They're just voicing their opinion about something they have no understanding of.
Tooling titanium isn't cheap. That's the bottom line. The fact that they're already $10 off MSRP means they're likely not making much after Massdrop takes their cut. TEC is a great company. The fact that they even take the time to reply to these trolls is testament to that.
First dozens and dozens of tops and accessories for tops, and now this... I've got no problem with people spending their money on whatever they want, but I suspect most folks looking for "EDC" are looking for and expecting to find utilitarian/useful items, not toys. Maybe they should really be in their own category?
Is EDC defined as something that needs to help you survive? I don't know. It may have started that way, but has organically evolved away from that to wallets, keychains, fidget toys, journals, and the like. What sets a fidget spinner apart from a journal?
MikeMcPartyNo, EDC is not defined as survival, I was using that as an example of how categorization works. What sets a "fidget spinner" apart from all your other examples? Most folks find all the others to have practical utility. They do something useful. They enhance one's capability.
Sorry, but I've spent way too much time on this topic, I've said all I have to say and more than I wanted to, I don't expect to respond anymore. It's not my site, I've got no stake in it, they can do whatever they want. I personally have zero interest in tops or other toys, and if the EDC category continues to deteriorate I'll just compensate by following it less closely, of course, because at least for me it's steadily becoming less and less relevant.
MTB2017Oh wow that's really strong. For anybody wondering you would have to spin that over 775 m/s to overcome that. That's about 1,735 mph no joke. (Unless I did it wrong)
Lol...but what if the snow is black?
No, not racist black.
Also, for some reason people think this, but white and black aren't actually racist. If you were to call something like the n-word, that's racist, since that's derogatory...but, white, black, hispanic, Asian, are used to classify race. NOT to look down on it. Until the internet happened.

MTB2017Please don't accuse me of trolling.
I asked a genuine question regarding a trend I've been seeing across the internet. Namely the proliferation of these fidget gadgets. And I'm genuinely interested in understanding why this is.
And what better place to find people's opinions than a discussion of the fidget spinner.
I don't know who you are, so I'll let you comment go. But never accuse me of trolling.
I really don't need this product whatsoever (Balisong and even baliyo pens scratch this itch for me) but I like to support this company every chance I get. I probably have 50 products from TEC and every one of them has been flawless. VERY well designed and affordable.
I'll put my 2 cents in.
To start, I was not invested in this fidget spinner fad. I decided to get one that I thought looked interesting by the way it functions, the orbiter.
When I received it I was decently underwhelmed. Smaller than I imagined it. Cheap packaging and a crappy bag as others mentioned. I bought the blue raspberry version.
I was surprised that the ball did not come off the side while spinning. I was worried at first that I'd be launching the ball straight into my computer screen but in the end it didn't.
I already mentioned the bag was shit but to reiterate, if I put the unit in the bag, closed it and dropped it in my pocket, the next time I'd check it would already be out of the bag.
Within a few days the unit had acquired scratches all around that effectively killed the blue coating to show the silver underneath. This is largely due to the bag being useless at protecting this $50 unit.
I played with it for 2 weeks. Keeping it on me and swinging the ball around when I had nothing else to do. Of course it's still relatively loud so I stopped using it at work.
I found that it lacked any satisfaction. Unlike a normal fidget spinner where you can improve your soon time, etc. This was just a simple arm movement that resulted in basically the same outcome minute after minute. I ended up buying a 1972 'silver' dollar that has a nice heft to it and a wonderful ring when flipped well. Much more satisfying and less noisy.
Did I mention it only cost me $1?
