Product Description
A new kind of fidget toy, the Orbiter from TEC Accessories features three parts: a neodymium magnet sandwiched between 6AL4V titanium end caps and a chrome steel ball. Thanks to the center disc, which is made from a neodymium magnet, the steel ball magnetically circles its outer edges, like a moon orbiting a planet Read More

I’ve purchased several of Tec Accessories various Orbiters. In my opinion, the best versions to go for are the Anodized Titanium. In this drop, the Blue Raspberry & the Alien Green.
I found that the Anodized finish on the Titanium Orbiters enables a smoother spinning action & helps stop scratches from forming. The Anodized finish is an extra $6.00 well spent.
I know people talk about Fidget Spinners but I’d consider The Orbiter to be more of an Every Day Carry item. A Fidget Spinner does one thing, it spins. The Orbiter does more than that.
I’ve lost a few of the silver balls but found them cheap enough to buy in bulk online from numerous suppliers.
Windex or a spray Glass Cleaner will help keep the Anodized Titanium Orbiters looking like new.

I Like It
It's a magnetic fidget toy. It's sort of a niche item. I like to play with things in my hand while I am watching TV or something, and love magnetic toys. This fits both categories.

Fidget spinners were a fad, and one I never got into that much.  That said, I love magnets, and appreciate something that keeps my hands from drumming on my desk, or my fingers from being chewed on when I'm doing some deep thinking.  As a method of keeping my subconscious tics from annoying my fellow workers, I found this to be a very well made, not too obvious solution.  That and it can be spun like a top, which I geek out on like a pro.  Plus, magnets!

Great product! Feels like really good quality that will last. They also include a spare ball in case you loose one, which is very nice of them to do.

The single star is for the specific Orbiter I bought from Massdrop. The Orbiter is a strong magnet sandwiched between two precision machined end caps, the magnet being a slightly smaller diameter than the caps so that there is a channel for the ball bearing to “ride“ as you spin it. The end caps also protect the magnet, which is more brittle than the caps. The one I received from TEC Accessories is flawless, and gobs of fun. Spins smooth as silk. The one I received from Massdrop, the magnet isn’t flush, and the ball gets stuck. I’m holding it now with the ball at 9:00 and it won’t fall to 6:00 without a significant shake. So, this early-bought Christmas gift for my son has been in its original box on my closet shelf, forgotten until I got this email asking months later for a review. I’ve had some really good deals on quality merchandise from Massdrop, but this is not one of them.

This looks like much more fun than it is in practice. In my experience, you don't want to get too enthusiastic with your circuitous fidgeting ... or you might just suffer a ball-bearing related incident. Maybe if the magnet were a touch stronger, one could twirl it around without the fear of losing the ball. And since it's supposed to be a fidget-based diversion, the user shouldn't have to worry too much about whether it's going to stay together.
Anyway, that's my take. It's okay, and if I were to toy with it a bit more, it might prove to be a better pastime. YMMV.

It's not actually that good of a spinner -- the ball to magnet surface doesn't feel adequately machined to me; there are definite rough, gritty spots, that make it not good for low speed spinning, and reduces the spin time for high speed spinning. For the price, I honestly expected more. I mean I still like it, but it's like a standard spinner with bottom tier bearings.

Decent enough, more a novelty item than an actually useful spinner.
