I know this is an entry level DAC and you can't have everything.
I was hoping this unit would have a separate power supply like my O2 headphone amp to reduce noise.
But, am I kidding myself in thinking an "average audio joe" like me, would I even notice the difference?
If you have "slightly better than audio joe" ears, I'd value your opinion and it would help me decide what DAC to go with. Thank-you
Id be using this with the O2 amp and Grado 225s if that's a factor.
Except that its already shown that the D10 has ultra low jitter even with regular USB power. Because when you have chips to clean the input, its not a big deal.
BorisTheBladeI got the fake AIMPIRE on Amazon. The seller told me to return it and they would send me a Topping, but only after removing my bad review. I returned it and they never sent me anything. Contacted Amazon and they refunded my money. Bought again on Amazon and got another AIMPIRE, then called Amazon, and they said they were SO SORRY and would send me the real Topping. I returned and they sent me another AIMPIRE! I returned that one for a refund, and now I have waited for over a month for Drop to ship my Topping. It's been a long three months!
Two things about this DAC that are easy to miss but very important especially at this price. 1) it has an OPA that is on a socket and as such, you can roll it, for those that are into it. I had a spare Burson V5i that I threw in there. 2) it has a SPDIF OUT coax and optical. You're going to search far and wide and not find anything at this quality or at this price with that function. So my primary use of this DAC to convert USB into Optical.
Topping D10 user here,
To maximize the potential of TOPPING D10. Use the TOPPING DX3 PRO DRIVERS just download it from their website. Its just the same, and the drivers of TOPPING DX3 PRO is much newer than TOPPING D10 drivers.
Using the TOPPING DX3 drivers will let you set windows audio output to 32bit 384Khz, unlike the original TOPPING D10 drivers that will limit you to 32bit 192Khz.
I hope this helps.
There also seems to be more people having difficult to pinpoint issues with the Topping, just scrolling through the discussion section here. Maybe it's just me nitpicking, idk.
I bought a modi 2 and was disappointed. It couldn't better a cheap Onkyo cdp. It's difficult to describe, but the music was a bit on the fatiguing side where high frequencies became seemingly exaggerated. And imaging was mediocre. I tried nice cables, etc. then I gave it away. I don't sell crap.
