Man, I was planning on getting the DX7s, but i'm glad Topping released the D50. Since I just bought the CTH (it delivers Monday--can hardly wait!), it makes more sense to pair it with the D50.
I was also seriously considering JDS labs El Dac, which goes for $250, mainly because of the AK dac. However, I've resolved that my next DAC purchase should include dual dacs, which unfortunately the EL DAC uses a single AK.
Guys, I think I found my next DAC purchase. I've been a very happy Topping customer so far, and am sure I'll enjoy this--especially with dual ess9038q2m's :)

slugmanI'm thinking the same setup, D50 with the CTH. How has this combo been working for you?

slugmanGood choice. AK dac chips are much cheaper and a good product available around $100. For AK chips, my target price is about $100. For ESS chips, about $200.

timothomDon't have the D50 yet. Also with some changes in my job situation looks like I'll have to wait to pick up the D50 unfortunately (looking for work atm). However I've been using my CTH w/ my NX4DSD and my K7XX's, and its an amazing combo! Can't wait to use my CTH + NX4DSD w/ my HE4XX's when they arrive later this month! Havn't quite reached the burn in period yet, but even so the sound quality from the CTH is simply incredible. It also sounds great paired my little Xuelin IHIFI780 (WM8740).
NOTE: HOLY CRAP I AM SO PISSED. I just discovered the Xuelin IHIFI790, which has the AK4490SEQ. GRR, i would've bought that had I known! Although the 780 w/ its wolfson WM8740 sounds great! I am a full believer in the Xuelin sound now!

franz1Interesting, I thought it was the OTHER way around (well when talking about DACS specifically). For example, the 1st DAC I purchased is Sabaj's DA2, which uses the ESS9018Q2C for $70 bucks or so.
Care to share any AK external DAC's in this price point? Usually the items I find are specifically DAP's (although this certainly qualifies and has the extra bonus of acting as a DAP too).

slugmanGoogle it. It is common knowledge, though essXXXXq2c (mobile, low watt consumption) is cheaper than essXXXXPro line up.

slugmanI've decided to use the DAC I have instead of buying another one. If you read enough about DACs..some of them measure up well on tests (Topping especially), but in real A/B testing, you can't really hear the difference on mid-range gear like we run.
I'm going to save my money and put it into some headphones. Maybe the HE-560 :)

timothomGood idea man. I was thinking of Advsounds Alpha Planars myself, although if I had a little more I'd probably gow/ the Mr Speakers aeon flow closed back, or the Massdrop Focal Elears. What dac are you running?

slugmanModi2 Multibit.
Also got my eye on the Aeons...but I might get the HE-560 instead. They are half price of the Aeons these days.
