What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. Also, just want to follow up on my experience with my Realforce. I've had mine since the first drop. To this day I still get giddy when I walk into my office, where I keep my board, and type all day at work. The switches are *that* amazing.
Yeah they grow on you as you use them once and a while because sometimes I'm forced to use really ugly input devices but upon arriving back home and sitting in front of a 55g RF, is like perfection.
Every key press, is another tune that soothes the heart and calms the soul.
I love my Model M and it was the very first mechanical board I ever used, but during longer typing sessions I find my fingers get a bit sore. Still far better than MX switches, even if MX switches can be customized to no end.
