External frame, wow very retro. Better packs available for this money.

BriafieldI'm sure other community members will chime in here, but some of the most recommended packs are still external frames, they just don't look like the packs that our parents used. Check out the packs from Seek Outside and Zpacks for instance. Even some conventional brands like Osprey have a frame that's actually outside the pack, and maybe are more of a hybrid internal/external frame.
I think the key with an external frame is that it carries a heavy load *much* better than a similar internal frame pack, and that's true of the ExoTi. Hope this helps @Briafield

DannyMilksMy bad, I have a ZPacks Arc Blast and never thought of it as an external frame. Isn't that weird. I guess it's the use of carbon fiber (now fiberglass I think) rather than metal.

BriafieldRight? Arc Blast doesn't look like an external frame but it is. But this new Vargo ExoTi has a more obvious (and much stouter) external frame than Zpacks. Still, it doesn't look like the older Vargo external frame pack:
