Interesting Idea but i usually just make one out of a stick when out backpacking. split it down the center, bore out the core and use twine or reed to bind back together, simple easy and give you something to do at camp.

McCaskillCool hack, thanks for sharing. To bore out the core is that just scraping with a knife?

McCaskillSuper cool idea. I will definitely try that out when setting up camp early. Setting up camp late I just want that fire going and food in my belly.

HubeyDoobyDooExactly. You will need a decent thickness stick. Typically around an inch diameter. Split it in half with your knife or axe. Core out the center in a funnel type shape on each side. Put holes on each end of the stick. then bind it back together accordingly to how your bored it out. Then blow on the larger opening to push air out the smaller hole on the other end. I tried finding a how-to online but can't hunt one down. @Kamakani, Your correct if you want to a get a fire going quickly. But you could make this and then take along with you for the rest of your hike and use it immediately. Usually I take a gas stove for those purposes.

McCaskill@McCaskill - Cool! Thanks for sharing the technique. Do you have any photos of one that you've built?

DannyMilksI don't unfortunately. Usually toss it into the last fire, leave no trace :D
