Bought a VA68M from Massdrop about a year ago-- with Cherry MX Browns.
Just want to point out that I've been having increasing keychatter issues, same as several others on this board (where you press aaaa key aand you get a double press or more). It started off as just my 's' key, but it's slowly spread to 'a' and 'h' over the last few months. At first I thought it was my keycaps, but I've switched those out a few times. I've tried taking it apart and cleaning out the case, thinking maybe something was off with the soldering or maybe I'd gotten something stuck in there. No such luck, it looks fine under just a visual inspection, I think it must be something wrong with the PCB or maybe the switches themselves.
Pretty sad about this, I really loved this keyboard until the keychatter thing cropped up.
SarahM
Same here, but I didn't get the Cherry keys, I got the Gateron browns. I'm going to try a bit of contact cleaner in the switch.
Just got the keyboard. Love it. This below un-documented function took me a hour:
To switch left Ctrl and left Win, hold Fn + left Alt for 3 seconds until backlight flashes 3 times.

You've saved me! Somehow I must have triggered this undocumented key combo and was driving myself crazy trying to hunt down a fix. I love this keyboard so much and I was very worried. Massive thanks for figuring this out and taking the initiative to post your finding!
zhigang
This is absolute gold. it was literally driving me crazy and there's little to no documentation on how to fix that or just go to factory default settings.
Anyone figure out if the key chatter was due to the switches or the PCB? I want to try to fix my board but I don’t want to buy a ton of switches and not have it work.
Varmilo told me it was MassDrops problem and MassDrop told me too bad. With these things being almost the same price as amazon with long shipping and no warranty I don’t know why I would purchase here again...
Drakorex
Hey there, I have one of these from MK.com and am experiencing widespread chatter also. Gat Blacks.
Drakorex
Also having keychatter issues, with Cherry MX Browns. Seems like it might be the PCB and not the switches, since there's enough comments I've seen with different switches. Just a guess though. Super bummed about this.
Last night, I pressed some combination of buttons that swapped my L_CTRL and L_WIN keys. Has anyone encountered this before? I checked the manual (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-RwMkdam3IkQ2xqVGNYX3FHZmM/view) and it doesn't have this function. What do I do?
Ye11ow
I spent 2 days working on this, made this post, and figured it out 5 minutes later. Fuck.
Future people: Hold Fn + L_ALT for 3 seconds. Board will flash. This is completely undocumented.
sick keeb tho
So... Did anyone else get a board without the little window on the "Page Up" key? Is this a factory omission? I can see why it would be very useful (for seeing if the number keys are set for number or function key operation). Does my board just have the wrong key or did everyone else get boards like mine with the missing window on the page up key?
Thoughts?
PowerGuy
The keyboard I received is DOA *and* it's missing the window on the "Page Up" key.
is there a way to use the number row with using the fn key??
crimsongoon
FN + PgUp: Toggle numer row for R1 FN + PgDn: Toggle Function row for R1
Got mine today, great bit of kit - the case is solid and the PBT caps are very nice. I love the backlight and the breathing mode for it.
There's a weird quirk that I can't work out though. The keyboard disconnects randomly on Windows 10 and sometimes opens the OS's right-click menu (haven't tried it with my macbook yet) and only reconnects if I press Fn + s. I'm a goober and immediately lost the guide, but the one I found online for the Fn key combinations didn't have this combination documented. For reference on frequency of the disconnect, it happened about 3 times typing this paragraph before I turned off the backlight. After turning off the backlight, the issue seems to have gone away.
Is it possible the keyboard isn't drawing enough power for the backlight? (my power supply is 800W but I have a lot of things connected)
What does Fn + S do? Am I cycling through something I don't fully understand?
aprogenji
same problem here...
kangm1n
nvm, it solved for me, after changing the cable that was included in the package
Received my keyboard today (mx browns) and I absolutely love it. I'm a huge fan of the layout, and the aluminum really makes it feel hefty. I bought this as an upgrade from a magicforce 68 and am very pleased with my purchase.
One side note, they seem to have fixed the ~ issue from the last batch, all of the special characters work fine.
Edit: originally I said the page down light wasn't working... not the case, user error. Didn't realize that has a function attached to it ;)
Chris_N64
awsome looking board. the one problem i have with my FC660M is that the right shift is a bit smaller so getting a second keycap set is a problem not so for you.. cool..i would have joined if it was fully programmable that's the fase i'm in now hahah
Chris_N64
Can you tell me how much this drop went for?
Hi, my shift + esc seems to write ` instead of the curly character, is there any way to program the keys

Haven't contacted them directly but Massdrop has been helpful in issuing refunds. Thanks for the tip though, I'll definitely let them know.
Seeing it on my work PC and my home Mac
Would it be a problem if i instal a Keycap set in another language? Respectively, can i configure it into another language? Cheers!
Love the look but wish it was full size.
will there be a later drop for the aluminium case as well?
AmarulaGold
This does come with the aluminium case.
Not programmable? Not even dip switches? Forget this, I'm waiting for the K-Type drop (hopefully in a few weeks)

Yeah, it would be great if they could offer an update of the Infinity 60% with the same features.
Thanks, just found my next kb!
I bought one of these last drop and haven't used it like I thought I would. I designed it to look like the one in top picture with MX reds. Anyone who would like to buy it please let me know.

How much are u selling shipped?

$165
I joined the magicforce drop MX green and ordered PBT keycaps. What are the benefits of the alunimum case over the plastic case?
rae4
DIfferent look and feel, little sturdier.
Ponoj
Much sturdier from my experience. No flex in this case at all and the plate is a nice brushed steel.
Wish it was free shipping last drop, anyway the keyboard is great.
Where's the MX Silent Red switches?
20 something sold and already sold out of gateron? this is silly would join if this wasn't the case.
Hah coincidence much? I just ordered one from Cynthia, I'm stoked!
A shame we can't choose the silver case. :(
Be careful buying this. You may have an excellent experience. You may have a board that begins having chatter after a month or two.

Also having keychatter issues (about a year after purchasing). Cherry MX Browns. Seems like it might be due to the PCB and not switches.
SarahM
It's absolutely the PCB. Don't buy varmilo!
order from china taobao still cheaper than here :/
keithhoh
You are lucky.
And this is an excellent example of a MassDrop fail. $159 right now from mechanicalkeyboards.com if you want cherry black or blue switches.....

there is a bad review for it on this website.
I just ordered this from the drop today. Went with the white backlight, cherry brown switches, and the top-printed keycaps. I joined the drop before reading the comments, and the "pinging" noise I see mentioned has me concerned. I wanted to bring this into work, but I share an office with someone and I don't want to drive them crazy with noise. Has anyone tried using o-rings? Does that muddle the noise?
revolutionNine
I don't really know anything about pinging, as I haven't heard anything strange on mine. I use zealencios with cherry profile key caps personally and it's fairly quiet overall.
Generally o-rings only make a noticeable difference if you bottom out keys, however. A fairly inexpensive option to try though.
revolutionNine
See https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/wiki/mcrip#wiki_sound_illusions, especially the "Sound Annoyances" section. I have experienced different kinds of "ping" with a number of boards, but it's definitely not something to worry about with regard to your coworkers. "Ping" is something you can barely hear, but it's just annoying enough to irritate you once you have identified it (although it might not affect you at all if you're not super obsessive about details). The best solution I have found, is simply to put a layer of non-slip shelf liner (like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Con-Tact-Brand-12-Inch-5-Feet-Non-Adhesive/dp/B008REVSRK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493826645&sr=8-1&keywords=non+slip+shelf+liner) inside the case between the PCB and the bottom half of the case. The VA68M case is super easy to open (just a matter of removing 8 screws). The shelf liner tends to absorb any resonance by minimizing the amount of hollow space there is in the case.
Hope this helps!
Why did i buy the magicforce 68 :(

see but this is better

Can't argue.
Anyone stuck between this and Whitefox like I am?
If anyone can convince me one way or another, please give me your input!

tcecilia
Can't imagine why. The only real positive this has over the Whitefox is it uses all standard ANSI keys. Unless you also dislike Costar stabilizers as well.
Cyphre
You're also more likely to get this one, considering the overwhelming demand out there for 'foxes. The soldering hole drop sold out in minutes and they didn't actually have all the boards they stated they did...
Gateron options are sold out already with one person having joined the drop?

Fair enough. Mind you I never said they were lower quality, simply that we lack long-term testing in real world usage. Nothing else. In the end, competition is always good.
One thing I've noticed about Gats though is that a lot of people seem to experience key chatter with them, particularly on this board. But it could be a manufacturing issue on varmilos part.
Received mine from the latest drop today with MX Browns, White side-printed PBT keycaps and orange LEDs. Much like others in this thread, I'm unable to type a tilde ( ~ ) character using Shift + ESC or FN + Esc. Has anyone had any luck following up this issue?
Aside from this defect, this keyboard is excellent. Looks and feels incredible and sturdy. My first mech with an aluminium case and I've gotta say, it's beautiful ;_;
And now I'll leave you with my attempts to type a tilde, ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````(please help)`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

Hey, sorry to necro the thread, but I bought one of these from someone on this group buy and I am having issues with the tilde as well. How do I go about getting this repaired/replaced?
Razor_blade
Hmmm give this a try, https://www.massdrop.com/buy/varmilo-va68m-mechanical-keyboard/talk/1683113 If no luck, see if the person you bought from can reach out to our support with his/her transaction id.
Sorry to hear, good luck
I finally got my VA68M with MX Clears, orange backlight, and the dye-sub keycaps. The ping on mine is....new to me, as I've never had a keyboard that had this ringing sound before. Hopefully, I'll get used to it. This is also the first time that I've had any keyboard with Clears... and wow, now I know what all of the fuss is about. They're freaking great to type on for someone like me who types a bit forcefully.
One question I have, however: are the keycaps glued on or something? I have no problem getting the keycaps off of my Das Keyboard 4, for example. But I felt that I was going to break something when attempting to pull one of the keycaps off.

Before you try again, take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWTiCA20Mx4&t=1m3s
It sounds like mx clears need a few weeks to settle in before removing caps, but ymmv.
niftypixels
I did not know that! I was able to pop the ESC key off after doing the twist, but again, it wasn't particularly easy. I will wait a while before trying again . I do love these keycaps... but I might not mind having a sort of double shot keycap that allow illumination of the character.
I cannot seem to type a tilde (~) with this keyboard using the suggested shortcut of Shift + Esc.
No matter what I try, I always get a grave quote (`) when using either Shift + Esc or Fn + Esc.
What's going on?

+1 got mine today and have the same issue, can't type a tilde

So I've directly contacted Cynthia, the rep from Varmilo and after some back and forth she send me the firmware files which actually worked!
Here are the firmware files (work on Windows only): https://mega.nz/#!M3w2nTSJ!IAL6-Lo9m-IYI51Ov7d3AJaUd6uGwdaVZhSo3YkJCQQ
