If you or a friend have a multi-tool, there’s a good chance it’s a Victorinox. After all, the company’s been producing high-quality tools for over a century, and they created the original Swiss Army knife Read More
BarbabeppoAaaand it was the old model with tweezers and toothpick. So neither image nor text was accurate. Guess this was my first and last purchase with Massdrop.
After seeing this drop this morning, on an impulse I grabbed the wood Huntsman on Amazon for about $3 more than MD and it was delivered same day. I have to say this is a gorgeous knife. I love the wood scales and it feels great in the hand. Excellent fit and finish as expected from Victorinox. It's only my second Swiss Army knife, my first being a Silver Tech Climber which is a great knife as well.
CogsworthCongratulations: I've owned the huntsman for over 30 years. As a former wildland firefighter (Smokejumper for 20 years) I needed the saw blade to cut small limbs and branches sometimes. The Huntsman is the largest Victorinox that I could comfortably carry in my pocket. But for everyday use, if you are not in the woods, the Spartan is best everyday carry.
I always hated the toothpick and tweezers. The spartan makes my minimalist go "WEEEEEEEE!".
Edit: I just received my spartan. It has a toothpick and tweezer... The pictures are a lie.
I got the Huntsman and it is a great addition to the collection; speaking of which I would like to see more unusual models in hardwood, any in the tinker series, the new Swiza series, the Farmer, etc.
olneyleeSwiza is another brand, not affiliated with Victorinox. It is, technically speaking, not a SAK since it has never designed a knife for the Swiss army. :)
Where’s the toothpick & tweezers that are mentioned in the description of the Spartan ? ( correctly not mentioned for the Huntsman & Swiss Champ, that original versions did have ).
Feb2245Got the Spartan today, tweezers and toothpick are included. There are no pictures of the side with the slots, but they are there. Can't speak to the other models.
I carried a Victorinox Hardwood Huntsman as part of my Every Day Carry (EDC) for years. It's easily one of my favorite SAK's, and an absolute great knife. The Spartan makes an excellent lighter-weight option, and the look and feel of the Hardwood SAKs is just awesome. They're beautiful, and they just get better with use and handling.
The only reason I don't still carry it is that it was lost from my pocket a couple years ago, and I'd put myself on a sort of moratorium from buying knew pocket knives, so I replaced it in my pocket with something I already had (which, sadly, is not something I like as much as the Hardwood Huntsman).
I will note, however, that the Amazon price periodically dips below the Massdrop price, so if you're not in a hurry and you don't mind watching for it, you can often find a better price there. As it is, the current price is only a few dollars off of the "best" price from Massdrop.
