Hey everyone. Quick update regarding things here. The most important part is that we will be refunding everyone the full cost of their knives and you do not need to return anything to us. We will work individually with anyone who has already contacted Community Support about returning their knife or may have sent it back in. After talking internally and with Victorinox, we all agree that the quality of the scales on this knife are below acceptable quality standards for everyone and we feel this is the best available solution. We would like to replace the scales with what was originally promised, but at this point we are not sure the quality can be improved by any meaningful amount. The following is for additional context on what happened, but is by all means just for those who are curious about the process. We had talked with Victorinox about doing something custom and ended up on doing a smaller project to start with. They had done this printing method in the past and were able to show us some great looking samples from previous runs with other customers. Based on how those looked we went ahead with getting some renders made and then used the community poll to pick a winner. After that the drop was run, people joined in, sent our order our to Victorinox and shipped everything out. There were two errors on our part that led to the current situation. The first was that we had the knives made and then shipped them without seeing an actual production sample. This was a major oversight on our part and was a decision that was made based on the company we were working with and samples we had already seen. This is something we will obviously not be doing again. The second error was how the issue was addressed when it was first identified. The first people to see there was a problem lacked the context to properly measure the severity it. They saw a functional knife with some cosmetic defects, rather than a lack of quality on the main selling point for the majority of the members in the drop. This is a problem with how things are surfaced and we are working to improve the process. At this point I just want to apologize for what transpired with this drop, but also to thank all of you for your patience and help in identifying the problems with the knife. You should all be seeing the refund reflected on your account within the next few days or couple of weeks for our international members.

ISKBravo MD. Much respect for stepping up, owning the responsibility and keeping the satisfaction of your members as the top priority. I was really disenchanted at the start of this issue but this honourable course correction has recovered my loyalty and faith in MD. Thank you.

This is what I think people were expecting. I would request for Victorinox to replace them all. They obviously have the capability.

Well Victorinox guarantees against manufacturer defects. I would say that is what this is and I do think it's up to MD to fix it. I hold Victorinox responsible for the poor quality but MD responsible for the solution. I would have thought MD would have opened one, seen the quality and sent the whole shipment back. I for one am returning it. I would rather carry the plain red Spartan vs this.

Hey everyone,
Thank you everyone for flagging this to us. Some of the people here in the office, myself included, have now received their knives as well. Combined with the pictures some of you have sent in, we can clearly see this is not up to the quality we were expecting.
We originally approved production based on the the renders we were provided because the samples we had previously seen using this method were of high quality and assumed ours would look the same. It was an oversight on our part to make that assumption and not request a production sample for this drop, but it's a mistake we will not be making again. We now know the print is not able to fully wrap around the scale and are still looking into the issue with the general fuzziness seen on the top.
In any case, we want to offer everyone a partial refund of $5 as we do not believe this quality is what we promised. If you are completely unsatisfied with your knife, please contact Community Support through the "My Transactions" page so they can help set you up with a return for refund.
Thanks for your vigilance and understanding, we'll do our best to make this right and appreciate the vendor's help and responsiveness to the community.

I believe you are correct. If they were made by Victorinox, I would expect them to have the aluminum inlay Victorinox logo (like in the original Drop photos), instead of the slightly-off printed one in the ones we received.
JonasHeinemanMassdrop does not seem to want to fix this???

A Swiss Army Knife that can't be shipped to Switzerland, seems logical.

Did anyone else get their order yet? I was a little disappointed in the way it came out. The design/print could of been clearer, etc. The design itself looks like it was printed using a printer that was running low on ink/toner...

A $5.00 "partial refund" ... talk about insulting us. If that is the best that Massdrop can do I'm gone from here. The suggestion of sending replacement "corrected" scales, however, is a good one. And, yes, changing out the scales by oneself is easily accomplished.
And, no, I don't want to contact "Customer Support" ... instead I want Massdrop to take the initiative to fix the problem. Send out corrected scales. Please.
Meanwhile, I've decided to hold off on any further purchases until Massdrop really makes this right.

Got mine today, does anyone else's scales look like the printing didn't flow to the edges? It's also faded almost pastel-y. All-in-all a little disappointed. Surprised these made it through MassDrop's QC.

My first Spartan and the print quality of this "exclusive" camo I paid and waited for was put on horribly. I hope that Victorinox makes this right, not what I expected from them.

Wyatt1911Same here! Very pixelated and looks nothing like the pictures that Massdrop posted. The blacks are not black and the rest of the colors are not sharp at all; greatly disappointed.

I can even understand if the pics that Massdrop posted were of a computer rendering but you don't have to look close at all to tell the print job on this one was faulty.
