Massdrop, what is the point of sending me an email to alert me to this at 6:45AM only for me to find the drop closed by the time I read the email at 8:45AM?
acnineeMassdrop, this has happened again for the 2nd day in a row. Maybe you should look into your email broadcast system and see if you have a systems issue? Thanks much, Mary
Ea37It sold out immediately.
I suspect Massdrop got like 5 of the inkwells in stock just to email the hundreds of users who requested this in the last 2 years... Once the 5 inkwells sold out, the point was to get us on the site, disappoint us, and hope we'd check for other drops while we're here. CompUSA did that a lot before they went out of business too.
Here's an idea: if you have over 150 requests, but only 50 units, come up with a way to let those who first requested receive the notification. I'm becoming more and more disenchanted with Massdrop.

I don't get it (and please excuse me for my ignorance)... USD 60 for an inkwell? Why is it so special?
RodrigoDeLaFuenteSimply put because it allows for full/efficient filling of a pen, especially when traveling where generally speaking the risk of mess is higher when you don't have a stable surface to rest a vial or bottle upon. If you watch the video you'll see why.
Also keep in mind, some fillers don't work well with it, such as vac fillers, or essentially anything that expels ink/air/etc in a single action which may cause pressure to increase momentarily on the inkwell end resulting in a possible ink-plosion while filling.
KarlBlessingAs long as the fountain pen seals off the plastic, the inkwell works just fine with vac fillers. It's especially nice with the power filling system on Homo Sapiens because it keeps the grip from absorbing any ink, a know problem with the basaltic resin line. Because the lava material is hygroscopic, any ink that is not immediately wiped off can lead to staining of that area. I can also confirm that the ink well works fine with a TWSBI Vac 700. Neither system causes too much pressure to impact the plastic inkwell.
Even though I finally managed to see this still in stock on Massdrop, it's still not a good deal. Penboutique has it right now for the same price with free shipping and a free 1-pen pouch. You can also use Gourmet Pen's discount code for an additional 5% off.
UnwisefoolYea, Massdrop has really gone downhill in the last couple years.
Massdrop: If you have 5 of an item and a 200 person wait-list, maybe email 5 people an hour saying it's in stock? Then the early-sign-up folks get an advantage and you don't piss off 195 customers. (or 198 customers if people buy multiples).
XenoMuse says it was $60 with shipping, that's a good price but not worth trying to wait for a restock or dealing with the "haha, not really restocked!" emails you keep sending us -- at least not for me.
...tho I will check back if there's a special edition Pelikan m800 I want -- those prices were worth going out of my way and waiting extra-long for shipping.
ASCII_AardvarkYou might want to check Farhney’s (located in Washington DC) - last week I purchased an M805 Demonstrator (the one w/ markings!) for $570, which is a pretty good price considering how difficult they are to find. They have several M800s, and they all seem to be discounted fairly well.
