What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

- How do you program this? The user manual link doesn't work. - What's the cost of shipping within the US? That's obviously a factor if I can pay more on Amazon and have it immediately. - Is it compatible with other controllers/can they be swapped out? - What color are the LED's, if any? I'm asking specifically if it is backlit or not. I have solid keycaps but the backlight on my WASD Code does diffuse around the edges, making the keys look like they are 'floating', which is an effect I enjoy. - How are peoples' experience in getting this item in a timely manner? 3 months is a LONG time to wait just to save ~$15 (I'd want Cherry Clears, so I'm looking at $115 + shipping). If that's the case, I'd end up buying it on Amazon for $140 with free shipping...
Thanks in advance!
I can also say programming it works in layers where the first is fixed stock, unchangeable. Programming the subsequent layers is super simple, no tmk or reprogram needed. Check out these links on youtube https://youtu.be/AlhQcHg7WRY and https://youtu.be/aO3l_LOEM9E Skip to 6:13 on the second video. It's actually for a Vortex Core. Different board, same company so the procedure is the same.
In my humble opinion, these boards are great. Whether here or another seller, I highly recommend picking one up.
Good luck to you and enjoy.
It's plate-mounted, if that matters.
There is a hole in the housing for a single led though.
Do yourself a favor and order it from Amazon. You can probably even find the RGB version (the one here is non-backlit) for just a tad bit more, and it would be at your doorstep within a week if you are in the US.
Massdrop really doesn't have great deals on keebs very often. It's really only good for Massdrop exclusive stuff in terms of keebs. They often do have some good deals on other things though. Picked up a pair of Gunnar computer glasses for 50% off the price they would normally cost. Their amazing, honestly. Headaches have pretty much been eliminated for me. I just saw that they have this same drop going on again right now too.
I think those gaming glasses are a joke. I have an anti-glare and computer coating on my prescription eyeglasses, coupled with using f.lux, that is easily 10x better. I already wear my glasses when I'm on my computer for a long period of time, and f.lux is amazing in reducing the color temperature of my monitor in the evenings.
Here's my non-rgb Pok3r w/MX clears before and after upgrading the caps!
@MTK4355, your post was basically proving to me that what I want /does/ exist, yeah?
That post depicts what you would get from this drop, minus my sweet PBT SA keycaps of course....
