Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Rockbox tends to provide a broader feature set than the firmwares that come on the stock player. For example, it supports more audio formats and codecs, it may add video playback as well, it often has more complete playlist management, it may provide more fine-grained control of audio equalizer settings, as well as the ability to create and save profiles, support for larger SD cards than the stock firmware, support for more filesystems, the ability to customize the display (eg, with themes), the ability to run some general purpose applications (eg, a text editor, or Tetris). There are also a few features like Party Mode and Car Mode, which I use frequently, which change the default playback behavior to better suit those situations.
Also, since it's open source, it's of course possible to modify or extend the behavior any way you like (so long as you're comfortable programming in C.) I've taken advantage of this in the past to re-map buttons to optimize a device for a particular workflow. The code is actually pretty clean and easy to work with.
I'd note, however, that this device is not officially supported by the Rockbox project, but rather a fork of the project that appears to have been created by a Russian developer. It's unclear why the author of the fork chose not to contribute the changes upstream to the main project. I think the distinction needs to be make clear, because it's not guaranteed that the author of the fork will keep their version up to date with new features, enhancements, and bugfixes that are released by the original project. You may also have difficulty getting support for any problems you encounter, since the larger and established community around the original project will not be eager to support a fork they had nothing to do with.

Even with Rockbox installed you can choose to start with the original software at startup if you wish. I never wanted to go back to the original software though..
