Had my X3 for 3 weeks now and the sound is much better with lower impedance earbuds than with my harder to drive AKG on-ears. Guess it just needs an external amp after all for harder headphones. One weird quirk I found is that when I use the line-out to play it through my car stereo's aux input, I need to have the USB power plugged in or it will only play an unusably low volume even though on a full battery...weird, but survivable I guess. The convenience of dual 128GB cards is worth it!
Zorba922I'm looking at this player, so you think if I have AKG k712s I'd need an amp to power it properly? Or is it ok without
I've never seen a high quality music player before and just stumbled upon this ; but this is great for portable listening. I guess I can find a tiny amp and tie it to the back of it? What headphones were you trying
nick123I've been using mine with Westone IEMs for 6 months and no issues with power. Read the thread at Head-fi (or skim it it's huge), and look into Rockboxing this unit, it really helps.
ribstabsheartIf only that helped someone like myself who is state-side. When shipping from the UK warehouse, it can be delivered to UK & other EU countries (according to their shipping & payment tab). Buzzkill.
nick123I just looked at the specs of the 712 on AKG's website and it shows 62ohms impedance, vs my 612's 120 ohms. So you will have a better chance of not needing an external amp with the 712, but I wouldn't rule that out either.
