As a casual listener and hobbyist, I come no where close to even considering myself an audiophile.
That said, why does everything I read about DSD trigger an amazing deja vu about this:

And yes, I am old enough to remember friends smugly showing them off.

RochambeauxYou can still find these. A vintage store down the street has a bunch of the discs and they are inexpesive. It's a small town, so a lot of prices are low. I've picked up a lot of very expensive, and very collectable albums for a buck or two. (Looked them up after). Come to think of it, I know someone here that has a player. I think I'll ask him if he wants to sell it. Thanks for the reminder! Wish I could afford this. Another reason why I like small towns and vintage, "affordable". I recently picked up a vintage Capehart stereo console for 10 bucks. Besides the huge speakers in the console, it has a L,R out and they had some vintage Rca Victor speakers for $5. I put a new diamond needle on it and a rubber band for the 8 track belt , cleaned the head, pots, and adjusted the tone arm. Sounds great! I still have to clean a lot of records though, but totally worth it. You know your older, when the music you love, ends up on the oldies but goodies channel. I remember jammin along to some songs in my car, and then the network theme song came on" 🎼Old but goodies", and I thought " No way!"⏳Time flys when your havin fun! CHEERS!

RochambeauxUp until a couple years ago there was an amazing karaoke place in NYC's chinatown that used laser discs. Thanks for the memories!

RochambeauxLaserDisc is to Blu-ray, as CD is to SACD. DSD became a gift to audiophiles when the patent ran out,, and we found out how to retrieve the data;) listen to something recorded in the studio in DSD, in DSD. LaserDisc was so attractive, that IBM even put their finger into it briefly, and then pulled it out.
