Sea monster?
See, if it said 'Visit R'lyeh' or something that'd be cool and ironic like a fake travel memento. Like, 'My Parents Went to R'lyeh and All I Got was this Crappy T-Shirt'. I have no need for a Zippo but I might even throw down for something like that.
With this, you show it to someone, and they either don't know anything about Cthulhu or they'll go 'uh, that's not R'lyeh, R'lyeh is the city in which Cthulhu waits dreaming'. And you will have to go 'I know, I just thought it was kinda cool anyway'. Whomp-wah.
It's too bad because as Cthulhu designs go it's got a lot to commend it. Everyone tries their hand at making Cthulhu gag stuff and most of them really miss the sense of occult esoterica that characterize the Cthulhu Mythos as written. This one, with all the little designs and quasi-masonic imagery, came tantalizingly near to being balls-out awesome but the 'R'lyeh' ruins it.
ggjjnnThanks for the clarification.
I would've appreciated the manufacturers more if they didn't just label it as "sea monster", but as "Cthulhu", and have the bottom inscription say "Fhtagn" or "Cthulhu Fhtagn" instead of "R'lyeh". But that's just me.
I can't belive anyone is buying these ugly ass zippos.
With all that shabby looking dragon, tribal, gothic and asia designs they look like straight out of the 90s.
Yesterday I pick it up from the post service, at nigth I put in it the Zippo liquid and after having used it twice, the dragon fell out the ligther... I can not believe it...
jmm2501Yeah same, but luckily it should be super easy to fix. a little steel wool to scuff up the surface of the lighter and a drop of super glue and you should be good.
This is an amazing Zippo and the details of the carving/engraving are amazing!
Purchased one as a gift and had to have one for myself. The gift recipient was blown away!
Even I never smoke, I opt in for the dragon teeth opening one - rarely see such serrated opening design. Received mine last week.
The finish is rough here and there. The serrated teeth opening make it less convenient to use.
The popping mechanism was strong and great. The overall build is solid. Good buy for fun collection with small money.
