TMBackstrom$20. As of today.
I checked that well-known retailer whose name is taken from a large South American river, and their price is lower.
I like Massdrop, and I like everything I've gotten here. I want them to continue to offer a variety of products. However, products on Massdrop are commodities: no matter whom you buy them from, they're the same. That means that I will always choose the best price whenever I can; I imagine most people feel the same.
Having said that, Massdrop collaborations are unique, and I'll certainly buy more of those, not least because they're such a good value.
Anyway, Massdrop, I hope you can offer more competitive prices in the future.

I bought the SM-YAE48 elsewhere before this drop happened (paid slightly more). The killer feature was that it fits my Aeropress, so I don't need to transfer from another mug. I find its heat retention to be almost perfect for my needs (a few hours for hot coffee).

Zojirushi is a fine brand, and these things keep stuff hot for a long time, etc and so on. BUT the non-stick interior is simply idiotic. It degrades over time, gets nasty looking, and is far inferior to plan ol stainless steel. It boggles the mind that a bunch of clever Japanese engineers thought this was a good idea. This keeps me from ever considering Zojirushi travel mugs, etc.

ssorgZojirushi offers both. Most of the mugs offered in this drop use SlickSteel... description from their website:
Zojirushi SlickSteel® Finish is an alternative to our nonstick coating. They are non-coated on the inside and instead use an electrically charged polishing process to treat and finish the interior. The result is a corrosion resistant surface that repels foreign substances and stains, creating a smooth and ultra-clean stainless steel environment for your drinks.
I believe the SM-JD36BA is the only one using a non-stick interior in the this drop.

ssorgI've had a Zojirushi rice cooker for a decade or so with a non-stick interior that looks and behaves fine to this very day.

Be aware... the SM-JD36 is really a bottle and not a travel mug. You have to completely unscrew the top to drink out of it. Zojirushi describes it as a mug because there is a removable plastic mouth ring around the edge of the wide opening. We made the mistake of thinking you can just remove the plastic top cover and sip directly from there, but you can't (it is just a seal that allows pressure to escape). It now sits rarely used in the back of cabinet.

What's the difference between the 18oz one and the 17oz one? why is one $6 cheaper than the other?

Daisy_CutterThey are the same volume and should be identified as such, looks like someone incorrectly converted from ml. Model number denotes volume: "36" = 360ml = ~12oz "48" = 480ml = ~16oz "50" = 500ml = ~17oz
The GWE is the newer version of the GHE (no longer listed on Zojirushi's website). Not clear if there are any real differences other than it is newer.

FYI - the "48" mugs are once again listed as 10oz on the Join Drop page. These are all 16oz.

Ordered red and black. Within a few weeks the paint on the black one is peeling off quite badly all around top portion just below the lid.

$20 on Amazon shipped right now! I would prefer to support Massdrop but it should be competitive...
(Edited)
I could use a better description of the differences of the models than what is currently displayed...
