the WD Blue which is a SanDisk drive comes in below this at 175$ for the ~1TB
Howdy Everyone,
Just to make sure we are all on the same page...
The product we are offering in this drop is exactly the same as the HP SSD S700 Pro 2.5" 1TB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) listed here https://www.amazon.com/HP-Internal-Solid-2LU81AA-ABL/dp/B075CPBWMX.
It is being produced right along side those HP drives in the same factory with the exact same components. It will also have the same 3 year warranty as the HP Pro drive.
Currently the cheapest you can get the HP drive for on Amazon for $216.79 and we are selling for $179.99.
Cheers.

For those wishing to be informed and not being pushed into potentially wasting $180 on something they might regret should consider the following:
1) SSD prices have taken a plunge over the summer. Here’s yet another sale for pretty much the same SSD (same controller and NAND chips) for $138.99 using coupon code AD23 https://www.rakuten.com/shop/adata/product/ASU800SS-1TT-C/ As a bonus, unlike MD you won't have to wait over a month to get it.
2) Much cheaper SSDs based on QLC are about to hit the market in mass, further driving SSD prices down. In fact, one is already out https://www.anandtech.com/show/13078/the-intel-ssd-660p-ssd-review-qlc-nand-arrives This is Intel budget NVMe 1tb for $200 MSRP, equivalent sata 1tb will probably start at $180 MSRP with street prices around $150 or less
3) The HP drive is not a high-performance one despite what B.Hutch and his cohort wants you to believe. Here's an opinion from one of the top SSD experts:
search
Source: https://www.anandtech.com/show/11790/the-hp-s700-and-s700-pro-ssd-review The reason is simple - the same SM2258 controller and Micron 3D NAND used in this drive are used in every other budget ssd on the planet. Plus, SATA3 interface severely limits SSD performance in general.
4) This drive offered is OEM, no name and doesn't have a manufacturer's warranty, the only warranty provided from MD itself. The question you should ask yourself is whether MD will survive long enough to service warranty claims. Since it's a small company, the risk of it going under is quite high.
Tex-ArozziI want to voice that I appreciate the work put into getting this drop on the site. Unbranded name brand products at a discount is exactly the kind of thing I like to see on platforms like Massdrop. Probably means less coming from me since I'm clearly a paid corporate shill (I will send you a PM for where you can send my shill paycheck) but none the less there are a lot of grateful users that appreciate the work that goes into scouting these drops.

Mmmm price is not compelling, you better be chopping Samsung off at the knees with your price point, for an oem offering.

Bullshit. HP ssd is the same junk ssd just like any other junk ssd made from exactly same parts 😒 at least others do not try to make themselves like God like you do with this drive. I hope you get fired from MD shilling after this fiasco of a drop 😆

Not sure why it seems so difficult to get firm details about this but it's enough to turn me off of ever buying something from MD again that isn't handled directly through the vendor. I can think of a few scenarios with this particular product if a warranty issue were to arise but all of them leave the user in the cold unless MD plans on keeping stock of these units specifically for warranty sendout. There are some products where this doesn't matter so much but with tech and data storage, it's nice to know that you can get quick replacement when necessary but it sounds like you're hedging on this so that indicates a probable long wait or a refund or something. MD needs to get some of the back end stuff together...much improved over the years but still falls short on some basics, imho. I generally give praise to this site but with caution since it's erratic.

Overpriced no-name SSD...
HP-issue documentation is a favor. Petulant is broader in action than just contacting HP. I would define petulant as leaving a negative response on almost every single comment and antagonizing the staff for trying to upsell their product, which is their job. I would define petulant as thinking your personal opinion is worth harassing someone for doing their job. And if HP is willing to honor the warranty, which you cannot provide proof they won't, then HP is putting the weight of their company behind it. If you have so many problems with Massdrop, which you clearly do, I don't understand why you continue to participate in their community, especially if all you intend to do is be negative and bitter. You seem to have taken it really personally that Massdrop is getting users a discount on an unbranded SSD, and I can't even fathom how little you must feel in life to be this proactively unpleasant.

dead_pixel_designAnd you are just plain stupid and rude since all you r argument consist of is parrotting b. Hutch or resorting to personal insults instead of actually doing some research and maintaining a civil discussion 😛

Terrible deal. There's plenty of sales on 1tb SATA ssds under $180. Right now you can get Micron MX500 at rakuten for $165 or so. https://www.rakuten.com/shop/thekeykey/product/211110/ (use code BTS15 for the discount)
Same place sells 960gb SSD (pretty much the same thing) for $127 https://www.pcgamer.com/amp/grab-a-960gb-solid-state-drive-for-only-dollar127/
On top of that, it's only 1 year warranty...

Sir! Either it IS or is NOT HP. By your own admission this is both HP AND NOT HP. So what’s it gonna be? You just claimed in earlier comments that HP does not own or have anything to do with the factory and then again just now you called it the HP factory. Film flam sham scam. Either you’re really inexperienced or you’re not being honest. I vote for the last one after reading all of your comments. If you’re gonna tell a lie, its best not to be consistently inconsistent with the details.
cyberkeeper1Good call. I edited my comment. I can assure you I am not lieing and do not appreciate you making that assumption.
