autoteleologyBut Till is just one person with imperfect subjective opinion. :) Some audiophiles from head-fi, which has 009 and 1266 believes, that K812 is the best dynamic headphones ever made. So, it is not obvious question. :)
autoteleologyI don't think he says he doesn't like them at all.
However, what he does say is that he found that K812 has a weakness in when there is a lot of treble, it can become harsh. To pursue/expose this weakness, he purposely played songs that doesn't suit this type of headphone, and he came to a conclusion that when playing some music, K812 can sound harsh... but also concludes that most music sounds wonderfully musical.
I have heard these first hand in Fujiy Avic earlier this year, and think they are fantastic. Better than HD800 in head to head, I think.
Will be buying when I can afford to.
KamikazeI want...so badly, but that price. Not massdrops fault just so much $$$$
I think this is one of those items where it need to come on this site once every 4-6 months.
However; there were so many HD600 and HD650 drops and now zero since Christmas. Again not MD fault but those headphones are legit.
autoteleologyThen you should just believe what Tyll says and buy whatever and only what he recommends.
If K812 is not for Tyll, I'm sure you are not going to like it either. Because obviously, Tyll and you share identical preferences.
KamikazeThat is a ridiculous strawman and you should be ashamed of yourself for writing this nonsense. It has nothing to do with preference, it has to do with the fact that these have fairly objectively measurable flaws. Of course it's going to sound good, but for a price like this, I expect more engineering and technical competency.
autoteleologyIf that is your opinion, don't buy them. No one is forcing you. It's called consumer choice.
Every headphone I have heard has fairly objectively measurable flaws. Even at prices higher than this.
to be honest with you, I have never heard a perfect set of audio equipment, even when the price tag is 20-50 times higher than this.
I have listened to K812 for around 2 hours using various music types, and the "peaky treble" referred to in the review was not a problem for me.
autoteleologyThe measurements may or may not reflect audible problems (even the barely audible), but at least the measurements are reliable as a reference. I've found that freq. response adjustments can make the "problems" nearly disappear, since the audibility of those problems is exacerbated by peaks in the treble. People using tube amps nearly always have a better experience with these bright headphones, but no matter what system you have you can always tweak with a good equalizer and get the best possible sound that way.
