Let’s not sit here and act like Drop has good prices... I tend to find that Drop charges more and it takes longer to get to you. Not quite sure of the value of being a member anymore. Kinda bummed.

I bought 2 pairs of Audio Engine speakers for my sons. Neither pair lasted for more than 2 years. I would not recommend anything Audio Engine.

Same here. Don't suppose you have any recommendations? Mine died recently and I'm looking for alternatives!

JD88I have a pair of P4s, which I've had for years with no issue (at least 4 years, but pretty sure it's 5). These are passive speakers, not the internally amped ones, which means they won't die unless you either drive them too hard or there's something incredibly wrong with the crossover. This is true of most passive speakers though.

I assume these are just normal speakers and not monitors? (asking for a friend)

Any bookshelf size speaker can become problematic in larger size living space. It’s not unique to speakers with the resolution of monitors at the same size. You can buy ‘monitor’ style speakers at any size for any room. I’ll reiterate what I initially said even though you replied somewhat to the contrary...monitor styled speakers are the same as ‘normal’ speakers but generally regarded to have a neutrally balanced tone (high resolution & flat response). There are many speakers that have been made throughout the years which have been used in both a casual and studio application. I use a set of Yamaha speakers in my office that are regarded great for music production but I also find fantastic for listening to a collection of vinyl through...they are still normal speakers though.

Rowdy2026Well, like I said, you aren't wrong. They all produce sound, they can be used for listening to music, and bookshelf speakers in large rooms can be bad. But, still, monitors (or pro-audio) aren't usually tuned (you covered this) or built the same. For instance a PA sub typically has a lower throw distance than a home audio sub. It's sort of the same with monitors, so what I meant (and should've clarified) was they tend to fill space far less than a standard box speaker. The trade off is usually, like you said, extreme neutrality. Monitors can definitely be as good as, or better than, non-pro focused speakers. Totally not arguing with you. Having heard a lot of both there's definitely a difference (also monitors are usually self-powered), but it's not some dramatic thing. I'm sorry that I probably came off like a dick, wasn't intentional.

Why does it say you can pair them with an 8 omn amp? that would be dangerous for 4 omn speakers.

It should be fine, it's typically more an efficiency and resistance thing.
Not a problem but also not recommended to do that. Since 35W to 8 Ohms is 70W to 4 ohms. The speaker will make sound but not really the best amp to drive it well. You should aim for something that's close to 100W range since when speaker company give a range, you want to either hit the top end or even go above for the best experience.

Well, a single speaker arrived today. I really hope the other is just delayed by a day and that these weren't sold individually.

TomWitt-2Not looking good. The Drop details page for these speakers mentions that each speaker weighs 12.5 lbs. The Fedex Shipping Facts page for my Fedex tracking number for these speakers says the single carton that made up this shipment is 14.7 lbs (much less than the expected 25 lbs that 2 speakers should weigh, without any packaging). Fedex reports that there are no other packages as part of this shipment and that the entire shipment has been delivered. It's clear by these numbers that Drop sent only a single speaker. Awaiting a response from Drop support. (Day 6: Three separate emails to support, at long last a response) Email #1: Them: We only order enough to fulfill the orders, we don't have any replacements. You can send it back if you don't want [Me: I don't want a replacement, I want the original order to be fulfilled] Email #2 : Them: Sadly there was a mix up with our vendor and we were sent single speakers, not pairs, these were in turn sent out to members. We're working with our vendor now to remedy the situation but we don't have an ETA on when this will be resolved.  2020-09-26 Update: Well, Drop acknowledges they screwed the pooch on this one and they're not going to make it right. My options are that I can return the single speaker received for a full refund (or keep the single speaker and Drop will gift me $20 (or $25!) for my next order). So disappointed. I was really looking forward to hearing what a high(er) end speaker sounds like. I can't bring myself to play only one speaker, even for a fidelity test. It would crush me if sounds awesome, knowing it's destined to go back to Drop (because the Drop buyer and AudioEngine supplier can't discern a freakin' count... 1 carton does NOT equal 2 speakers).

TomWitt-2So you keep 1 for the cost of 2. and they only give 20-25. Sounds like a bullshit offer. You should have raised hell. Doesnt make Drop doesnt look very good in this instance.

These actually seem pretty nice. Any word how they would compare against some emotiva 6s's? Thinking in terms of sound clarity and low range extension.
Correct, HT receiver specs are often misleading, but I can assure you that the clean-sounding HTR-5590 is not lacking in power. I used it outside at a party with my 150 watt-capable SVS Ultras with the volume maxed-out, and the sound level was absolutely deafening. So I fully trust Yamaha's official "100 watts x 6 channels into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.04% THD" rating. The 5590 is, by far, the most power amplifier (receiver) I have ever used. Conclusively, a lack of power on tap or not a having "a higher quality source" was not the issue with my pair of HDP6. I understand that the SVS Ultras are in another league and price range then the HDP6, so that wasn't really a fair comparison. Having said that, I've owned at least a dozen passive speakers models under $400/pair (including the Polk S15, Chane A1.4, Klipsch RP-150M, and Jamo S803). While the HDP6 speakers looked and felt the part, honestly, they would rank near last in sound.

I owned a set of these (or very similar) four years ago and returned them due to persistent audible humming even at zero volume. Audio engine suggested I check wiring in my house. There were multiple complaints re this problem available online. Just a heads up.

I own a pair of P4s in solid bamboo. They're really great little speakers. At $300, with the build and sound quality, these are a good value. I wish I had the side cash to buy them, but I'm tapped for the month. The description didn't seem to mention it, but these speakers are real wood veneer, which is very rare at this price.

postwarscarsI also have the P4 in solid bamboo and (like every professional review written for them) they provide a much larger range than anyone expects. The cabinet construction along with the choice of bamboo apparently puts their performance out in front of the standard P4 in black or white. I'm not sure how the speakers in this drop compare in that aspect, but from my experience Audioengine can be trusted for build quality over many other brands I've dealt with. I use the P4 in my office paired with an SVS SB1000 sub, and visitors are always blown away. Can crank them to 11 without an issue (beyond ear bleed) and cannot recommended them enough.

infosecgurusI have mine paired to an older HSU VTF-1 MK2, and everyone I've talked to really likes them. They are really beautiful speakers, and I love their midrange. Very few companies produce a speaker that nice at the cost, and it's made me appreciate Audio Engine a lot. Most speakers in the same range use cheaper materials for cosmetics/box and it's just kind of refreshing to see something done right.

PSA: Be sure that you are willing to ship your speakers to and from USA for any repairs. This is further compounded by the fact that some Audioengine products such as the A2 use proprietary drivers that are difficult to source from anyone except Audioengine. It would pay to verify if this one does as well. To make matters worse, AudioEngine categorically refuses to ship proprietary replacement parts to its customers, and insists on sending everything back to its US HQ for repairs. That is fine if you live in the same country; otherwise, I'd double-check the repair and replacement policy with a local Audioengine distributor before pulling the trigger.

Great choice! I went with IK Multimedia’s iLoud Micro Monitors only because they’re on sale currently at $230 but got them for $200 as had credit at their store directly (no tax too) otherwise if closer in price the T0 for sure was my pick. enjoy!

Yeah I never understand the speaker vs speaker YouTube channels. You are listening to two different speakers, through a microphone, through YouTube which compresses sound, then out your Dac/amp and then finally your own speakers. Absolutely no relation to what you hear and the speaker being played, people are pretty dumb tho so there are 500 of those Chanel’s.
