Following such highly regarded in-ear monitors as the AT-CK10, the LS200 and LS400 mark Audio-Technica’s next foray into the affordable, high-end IEM market. Both models feature balanced armature drivers (two per ear in the LS200 and four per ear in the LS400) and deliver clear, balanced, immersive audio—with the LS400 bringing a powerful, fully realized bass. To reduce unwanted resonance, the housings are made of rigid stainless steel and tough Tritan resin. Specially designed acoustic sound pipes guide music from the drivers to the listener’s ears with improved high-frequency response, and the ear-tip posts are angled for a comfortable, sound-isolating fit. Both models come with a 3.9-foot cable with an inline mic/remote and feature Audio-Technica’s new removable A2DC connector, which allows the cables to be easily replaced.
Note: At checkout, choose the ATH-LS200iS (base price) or the ATH-LS400iS (+ $250). You’ll also have the option to upgrade to the 323A cable with AgA+OFC silver-plated annealed copper wire (+ $90) or the 313 cable with 6N-OFC+OFC high-purity copper wire (+ $100).
Describing the dual-driver LS200, Cymbacavum says, “Overall, I firmly believe the Audio-Technica ATH-LS200 is one of the best overall earphones the company has produced. It’s an ‘entry’-level balanced armature in-ear with a balanced, relatively neutral-sounding profile versatile with all kinds of music, delivering clarity without harshness, and bass presence without head-thumping pressure.” Read more about the quad-driver LS400 on Major HiFi and more about this series of Audio-Technica IEMs in this Head-Fi thread.
