maheeWould that make the w1000z/x a more general headphone (i.e. a greater value than w5000 due to more genre range)? Or does the w5000 tack on that much special sauce in its area of expertise in comparison to the w1000x/z?
Right now, I'm wondering if they have the same relationship that my ad1000x have with my ad2000. From my experience the ad1000x is a more general than the ad2000, but the ad2000 are so dedicated to what they do well that I can't help but feel them superior to my ad1000x.
IllogicalOrderI have no personal experience, but based on reviews W1000Z covers more genres, so it is suitable for most users. W5000 seem to be focused on female vocals. IME headphones like this can can be great initially, but soon the new toy syndrome will wear off and it wont see much use. Apparently W5000 never saw any updates from its release in 2005 i think, but W1000z is updated quite a bit so it likely features newer tech. W5000 is also amp picky, in the sense you need a warm amp to soften that treble.
Hey but if you just like to collect headphones, then TOTL W5000 gives you higher bragging rights over W1000Z..so there you go. you get a nice case too
mahee As an enthusiast not a salesman, my experience has been w1000z is warm and adds some additional “character“ and doesn’t excel in female vocal. A2000z I should a pair for very critical listening due to an unforgiving accuracy in the mid to highs. W5000 shares the w1000z warmth and adds additional shape and depth to the low end. Of course I also have been listening with the matched amplifiers AT-HA5050 and AT-HA5000. Sometimes work is fun!
