Anyone have experience using these in a surround sound setup. I have rca outputs for 5 channels on my receiver. The thing I am thinking is the volume wont be balanced amongst components.

gnerYou do not want to use these in a surround sound setup. You want passive speakers. These are powered studio monitors, meant for small rooms or on a desk. They sound wonderful at low volumes, I have had a pair of the A5+'s for about 2 years now on my desk at work and could not be happier.
Anyone who gets a pair for desk use, I highly recommend the matching wedge stands available from the manufacturers website.

doctorwormI've found them to really shine at high volumes; and yes anyone who gets these should really get the audio engine stands to go with them.
