I signed up for the AKG K7XX and was looking for a DAC/Amp... but after reading about Aune's bad customer service (http://www.head-fi.org/products/aune-t1) I'm going to look at other brands...

gazzaaSilly, Aune T1 is a great product. I've owned the MK1 and MK2 and not had any problems. I regret selling it so I'm back in this drop. I'm actually going to sell my Woo WA7 in favour of the Aune T1, I don't think the jump is that big. Have the K7XX coming too.

marts_sumI don't doubt the Aune T1 is a great product, but personally I prefer companies that understand the value of good customer service - e.g. LH Labs uses a ticket support system (http://www.lhlabs.com/support.html) instead of a simple support email address.
Actually, I just signed up for their 'Geek Out 1000' on steroids: the Geek Pulse. And I will - once I have received it - buy their GeekPerfect software as well, to play DSD files on OS X.

deFiniLoGyI agree, but thanks to those negative comments I am able to make a better/more informed decision about the products/services that I buy. I sort of understand the power of marketing: the most popular product is not always the best product - e.g. France's best known brandy Cognac is in my opinion inferior to Armagnac. Armagnac is single-distilled and can have a more complex flavour profile, compared to the double-distilled Cognac which is diluted to 80 proof.
So, when buying quality products I tend to do a bit of research, looking both at the positives and negatives, with the understanding that people are more inclined to vent their negative experiences.
In this case it was very interesting for me to learn about Aune's after sales service. To me it shows that they are not interested in building a long-term relationship...

gazzaaI don't disagree, but I do feel you'll be missing out and I believe that when it comes to Massdrop you can deal with them directly when it comes to problems. Maybe someone who works there could pop in and confirm that? I've seen other drops where they've said to deal with them and not the manufacturer. I'm sure the service here would be better.

RicatI must say it is a really good price, and at that price a nice first tube amp to experience with tube rolling! In the meantimeI have decided to get something better: I'd like to get a DAC/amp that supports 24/192 and DSD. That will allow me to play SACDs as well (as these are DSD coded).
Last week I have ordered a Fiio E18 to pair with my Samsung S3 using my AKG K551 cans (for work). As I have signed up for the AKG K7xx here on Massdrop I want to pair this in a desktop solution (at home). I'd like to use Native DSD instead of DoP, so I guess I am limited to a Windows system (probably a new Dell XPS 13) and a Geek Pulse DAC/amp.
As I haven't bought any Hi-Res albums yet I can buy DSD 64 versions, or at least PCM 24/192 versions, which I will then have to down-sample to 24/96 (for use with Fiio E18 using USB OTG) or 16/44.1 (for use in car CD player). Or if I buy enough DSD albums I might consider buying the Resonessence Labs Herus, and sell my Fiio E18!!
As far as the warranty goes, after reading Massdrop's Terms of Service with regards to warranty (https://www.massdrop.com/terms-of-service) I think you are right. Massdrop as a company will be in a better position to negotiate with the manufacturer regarding defective goods.

marts_sumHow big of a difference is there between the MK1 and 2?

gazzaaHaha, now you've actually gone beyond my understanding. I had to Google what DSD even is. It seems interesting, but I am kind of skeptical especially after reading about the differences between 96/192 and how humans aren't even supposed to be able to hear the difference... I do love the 24/96 stuff I have, though. I barely think my ears are good enough for 24/96, unless I just need better cans to really get the difference. Is DSD worth getting such specialized equipment? I was so tempted to buy the AKGs, but it's not in my best interest right now. I just recently got some HD 558s. Maybe one day I'll buy HD 650s, but I dunno how those compare to the AKGs. Judging from the price point, the AKGs are more like my HD 558s I think.

MazordSoundwise, not much. Just the few improvements noted in the description. Couldn't compare side by side.

RicatI got the Aune T1 MK2 from the previous drop and the power switch on it was defective. I sent an email to Massdrop support about it and they were quite helpful. I mailed Massdrop my defective unit and they sent me a replacement.

RicatBuying all this stuff is a bit like buying a car (although cars are a bit more expensive and most ppl don't have multiple)... do you want a VW, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley or Bugatti? People have different preferences and budgets of course! Is that Bugatti 20 times better than an Audi?
Anyways, regarding DSD vs PCM have a read - http://www.audiostream.com/content/dsd-v-pcm-file-comparison-16441-2496-24192-64x-dsd-128x-dsd. Obviously it is all about the original recording!!
