I'm waiting for the Paladin to come out. Check out the preview from Stassa23 on Youtube. It's got the aggressive lines of this one and the Scimitar and the good news is it's G10 and D2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eITWLzVQego

Now this is interesting.........a two tier buy in discount? first I've seen that. And a starting point that's basically retail, and a much higher number of purchases needed to reach the same discounts we've been traditionally getting on these knives.
I like it in theory, discounting more if a larger number are purchased.....but I think they went the wrong way on this. Why not keep the same standards we had before and increase the discount for huge drops? Not force it to have to be a huge drop before giving the standard discount.

AxeguyFrom the email : "Better luck next time! Unfortunately, the drop for the Bestech BG09 "Spike" G-10 Series didn't get enough participation this time, so the items won’t be shipped out and you won't be charged."
Better luck? Ugh. We had enough participation for the usual bestech drop requirements. Don't put that on us 🙄

Does it seem a little strange to anyone else that the G-10 series has "nylon/fiberglass" scales?

The name is absolutely inconsistent with the materials. I am however glad to see them branch out into new materials. They've been around for a bit and almost exclusively worked in Ti/S35VN or G10/D2.

Ray_NCVery strange indeed. I like their decision on it though. The nylon/fiberglass gives it a slimmer profile which helps set it apart from the others. Definitely has a more gentleman's folder/urban carry vibe to it in my opinion.
Any thoughts on 12C27? I like the design but I don't have much exposure to that steel.
Additionally given how the screws on my Scimitar were, I'm leery of buying another knife I won't be able to disassemble.

MaxwellDemonic12C27 is the same steel Morakniv uses for most of their SS knives. Sandvik is known for their high purity alloy steel. Swedish iron ore is very 'clean' and makes very fine grained alloys with low quantities of unintended/unwanted/residual elements.

MaxwellDemonicSome of the newer Sanrenmus use it as well as many of the Ruike knives. IMHO it's a very nice steel for the price. My Ruike Hussar came incredibly sharp out of the box and has pretty much stayed that way (with somewhat limited use, I'm not cutting rope all day or anything).

Out of curiosity, am I the only one that cares where my knives are made? I noticed MD quit listing the origin. I will spend the money for American made knives.

Indeed, and like I said, it's a great knife. A few points people have noticed on them (the Scimitar specifically) is a lack of mass at the pivot point. Around the bearing, there isn't much steel. This can allow for ordinary pressures from average use to cause breaks at the pivot. They would likely go unnoticed until the most inopportune time, and might lead to an injury. I won't be prying on anything with this knife, not that anyone should pry with a cutting tool, but you know we all do it.
Another small issue is the lack of customization with respect to the pocket clip. It only has one position. It can't be switched to the opposite end or side to accommodate a particular style of carry. This is almost standard on budget knives.
The last thing appears more to be a case by case issue. It might be fine on one, and junk on another. That is, the locking tab engagement. On mine, it is solid. The entire locking tab seats under the deployed blade, makes perfect contact, and is safe to use. Others have reported that the engagement can be lackluster at best to downright non-existent at worst, leading to a potentially dangerous use of the tool. This is more of a quality control issue than a manufacturing one. Like I said, mine is perfect.
Just little things that they could improve on, but in doing so, might bump the cost a bit. As you pointed out, on many of their models, the material quality is excellent. That's the main reason that I think the description for this particular knife's handle material might be in error. The "G-10 Series" is supposed to be a line of knives with G-10 handles... or so it would seem.
Hope that helped. My points are certainly not enough to dissuade me from buying another one of their knives. I think they will only get better with time.

got my spike today. i have to say the Lion in D2 is still one of the best built knives for the price i have purchased from this site. for only 2 dollars more you get D2 steel, G10 scales, ceramic bearings with thicker liners for a bettor lock. i do like the spike, the action is nice, stonewash looks great, cant beat a flat grind (my fav). but the Lion D2 is still amazing me as far as the quality for the price, will be getting the lion in all colors when it comes back.

Is the handle rough plastic? I need something that I can hold without fatigue

JustFluxzI think it is much like the Steel Will Cutjack or Modus. It is hard plastic but I would look for reviews in YouTube with regard to ergonomics. Many nylon type handle knives are regarded to be comfortable. It really depends on the shape and how it fits in the hand.

Where did this one come from? No logo on the pivot, and 12C27?
I thought the exact same thing. I'm guessing it's FRN. Honestly though if you compare the materials and price to a Spyderco Delica, it's still a good get.

MaxwellDemonicOh yeah, still a good deal compared to other brands with similar materials (probably even better quality and materials then a lot of knives in this price range) Just feels wrong to have it the same price as other Bestechs that use higher end stuff. This is the price I paid for the Swordfish here (d2 and 2 piece g10)
I'd still buy it though, if i were looking for something like this (have nothing specific against it, just that I have enough similar knives and nothing about this one is standing out for me at the moment)
I just got mine in the mail today and as someone who owns a few other knives from Bestech I'm a little disappointed with this one. While the knife looks nice and the blade is shave-sharp and perfectly centered the "pros" end there for me personally. I do not find the handle to be particularly grippy, maybe because the lines on the handle go tip to tail and allow your hand to slide forward on the handle. In addition, the handle scales one mine have a small burr left over from the molding process that runs along the edge of the handle and are actually somewhat sharp. This is especially noticeable when trying to disengage the liner lock. I can sand these edges down, but I shouldn't have to. It's hard to see in the image below, but it's the best I could get so look closely at the inside edges of the handle scales on the left side of the image.

The flipper action is not as smooth and frictionless as it is on other knives in Bestech's G10 series. It appears this model uses a brass washer instead of bearings. The kerning on the writing on the blade is off and it makes it look like it says "SP I KE".
Here's how it looks compared to 2 other Bestech knives in the G10 line. Not sure why this model cost more than these other two.

MichaelHeartlessHeh, just came here to make the joke about "SP I KE"... looks unprofessional. But other than that mine is perfect. No hotspots or rough edges. It's on the same bearings as the other models and mine can *almost* drop-shut. Yours probably just needs to wear in a little bit. I've gotten Bestechs with rough detent grooves before.
Looking in the pivot with a flashlight it looks like there's some kind of grease in there, which is odd considering the knife was basically dripping with oil when I took it out of the bag. I guess they really want to make sure it's lubed.
