Maybe this is just me but from the photos, I thought this pen would be perfectly cylindrical, not like an oval shape. Photos of the pen head on or a shot with the pen on its back with another one on its side beside it would have helped.
Hey Massdrop, just to be clear: this is only the brass version right? There weren't options at checkout and most of the specs are for brass, however the materials still lists "aluminum or brass".

Agreed, is this brass or aluminum?
Bknguyen
They updated the listing to just say Brass!
So addendum to my earlier comments, I received this pen early in 2018 as a birthday present and have been carrying it nearly constantly. However, as I didn't get it from massdrop, I can't add this in the reviews section. I have two Karas Kustoms Bolt pens, and the action on the brass Bolt is way smoother. It's hefty in hand but not cumbersome, and the bolt action is easy to use. The Fisher refill writes well, but I'm going to change to a different cartridge when it runs out as it's kind of "sticky" when I first start writing for the day. The oval shape of the barrel took some getting used to, but I really really liked it after a few months, and I'm carrying this pen more than my other fountain or ballpoint pens. I always get compliments when I use it.
I carry the pen in my back right pocket, and in May or June the clip got caught on a duffle bag strap and snapped. That would be my only complaint of the pen, is that the clip isn't super robust around the screw hole. However, I contacted Boker's customer service and they replied within two hours and sent me a replacement clip (with a torx allen wrench in case I didn't have one) which I received within 48 hours. I'm pretty satisfied with that customer service.
In case my tale didn't have enough ups and downs, I was at a friend's cabin at the end of June, and took all of my EDC items out of my pockets while I napped in my hammock. When I reloaded my pants, I somehow missed the pen and it laid there for a solid month before I was able to go back up and look for it. It was out in the rain, sun, and (presumably) was run over by a riding mower a few times. When I found it under the trees, it looked practically identical to when I'd lost it a month before. There was a little dirt in the mechanism and the pen refill had a little bit of surface rust, but after a quick wipe down inside and out it's back to new.
I've seen other reviewers saying that the top has come lose, but I haven't had that happen in a solid half year of use. I will agree that there's a little bit of wiggle room where the pen protrudes through the brass, but that hasn't really bothered me. The only other note I have is that the brass has been coated with something, so it hasn't taken any patina except for where my phone has rubbed a bit off on one corner. All in all for me, a favorite of my pen collection and I highly recommend it. However, again it's cheaper on other sites.

Any reco on replacement clip? Mine snapped.
SumoJay
I snapped mine and contacted Boker, they responded within like three hours and sent me a replacement and a torx allen wrench. It arrived less than 48 hours after I contacted them.
Damn, I was gonna join this drop but saw that the brass version is out of stock already. That's a shame.
Drop is limited to 200 units, Brass sold out at 20 units sold.... Awesome supply and demand there massdrop/boker.....
I have this pen and I love it, but it's the same price on blade hq with fast shipping.
This is taking a while, lol .. I'm not desperate for a new pen, but we're over a week past the expected delivery date.

It's absolutely ludicrous how long I have to wait for a pen. This isn't some huge issue, I'm not massively impacted, but it's just a little annoying that I'm out $32 and have nothing to show for it. There's nothing I can say that will suddenly invigorate your manufacturing staff to get it done quicker, but I would've expected a little bit of anticipation for high sales.
Any word on when this last drop might be filled ?
I just received mine yesterday and I love it! I bought mine specifically for use in my military uniform. The pen pocket on the ABU sleeve constantly jams into the inside if my elbow when I bend my arm and often clicks whichever pen I have in that pocket. The bolt-action style prevents that from happening, and it's oval design makes it lay flat and is barely noticeable in the pocket. I went with black aluminum and it is VERY lightweight.
Like other comments mentioned, the cap did quickly come loose after about 50 clicks, so I added some blue locktite and tightened it back up. I also added some black heatshrink for a little extra traction to my taste (but not needed). I also plan on getting my name engraved on it to dissuade any co-workers from walking away with it.
The only nitpicks I have are that it's made in China, and the knurled part of the "bolt" can be a little difficult to engage if you have large fingers. Also it can be a little difficult to retrieve from a pen pocket since it doesn't have any tab or structure above the top of the pocket clip.

Bought the black one on BladeOps instead... same price and free shipping.
Instead of loctitie i used an o-ring that was originally used for silencing mx stems on a keyboard. This allowed for ease of use and maintained the screw from backing out. I think i have a unique coloration.

Yeah so here are my scenarios for use: 1. Moleskine type notebook, I use this for work, so pretty much M-F sometimes at home too. I went to Daiso and got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Warmsky-Leather-Elastic-Notebook-Burgundy/dp/B07DH6B92N/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1534096792&sr=8-4&keywords=notebook+pen+pouch at Daiso they were ~$1.50? pretty affordable.
2. I have a Midori Travelers-type notebook. Actually it was a Rustico brand from massdrop... anyway I have an insert: https://www.amazon.com/Midori-Travelers-Notebook-Refill-Passport/dp/B003SNT0KM/ref=pd_sim_229_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B003SNT0KM&pd_rd_r=WKB17E9E4QWPBG7NH79Q&pd_rd_w=iwxyy&pd_rd_wg=RV9SU&psc=1&refRID=WKB17E9E4QWPBG7NH79Q&dpID=419XDFWWcLL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail that I use for it. This keeps the pen.
So for my use, I don't keep the pen in my pocket. I will always have a notebook with me. I guess I don't understand just having the pen without anything to write on...

Haha, that makes perfect sense! Thanks for the different variations!
I've carried the black one for about 2 months now and I am extremely happy with it. There is no chance of it deploying in your pocket if you carry it in your jean pocket. The action is very crisp and positive. The black finish holds up surprisingly well. I have dropped it quite frequently and there is no wear except around the switch. Definitely put a little bit of locktite on the screw. I really liked the cartridge it came with, but it has no markings. Anyone know where to get an exact replacement? I'm using a Schmidt easy flow in it now.

Itoya makes a really good refill.
I designed this pen and as a Japanese sword maker would say "The Complexity is in the Simplicity" JohnnyTheC states its a cheap pen, but everyone who has one - who has held one - who has written with one - would give you a different impression. I have never had one of my customs come back - I have only twice seen the customs sold on the secondary market for a profit. I can never keep it in stock and even this production version it is usually sold out. The Oval shape is unique and comfortable --- The Bronze is my favorite - I love the weight and how it feels in the hand. Go to my FaceBook page and ask people who actually own one what do they think....
If it’s constructed like the .45, the bolt part falls out when you slide the action repeatedly. It’s only screwed in lightly.

It is a bolt action but I created a mechanism that is flushed with the body.
The screws on these are very fragile though. So I wouldn't recommend anyone to try and tighten them too much. I ordered both of these elsewhere and was kinda bummed when the brass screw marred in the torx part. The screw kept coming loose and I didn't know about the loctite needing to be used. I requested a replacement screw from both the designer (BlackKnight) and boker. Nether one even offered to send one.
I really like the design, but I think the screws need to be out of a stronger metal.
Quick search shows these available at another retailer for the same price. IMO this would make a great beater. Even though I haven't held this pen I think the oval shape would make it comfy. Also like the low pro mechanism. Maybe, just maybe. Cheers
Not a great price, but it appears to be sold out almost everywhere else so perhaps not a bad price either. One thing the images and description don;t show is that it's oval in cross section, which makes it kinda interesting.
Thanks, everyone. If this is only 1 pen, I'm not going to worry about this drop. I thought this was for TWO pens.
Will the black anodizing quickly wear off where the switch mechanism is?
JohnnyTheC
Yes. I've been playing and using mine for 2 days. The black at the bolt is worn off where the 2 rub. The inside of the bolts torx on the black one is also bare now too. I've used the screw, 3, maybe 4 times. The aluminum screw is a bit fragile too. Don't tighten it too much. Use loctite like the designer stated.
Is the brass model to heavy for every day use?
Madmax80
I use mine daily and I enjoy the weight of it. Definitely significantly heavier than a regular pen, but I don't mind it.
This drop is for TWO pens? Do both pens HAVE to be the same? Can we not have one black and one brass? Could you please make that as a choice?
Do these pens come with the ink cartridge already in them? Are these FINE cartridges, or do the refills that fit this pen come in FINE? I have never had a "nice" pen, so I am not sure where to go for refills for a pen like this.

I haven't put any loctite on the "bolt". No point now though as the damage is done.
Yours on the site might be better as I assumed, but they're unavailable.
Hey man, I've had the brass version pretty much since it came out earlier this year and have put it through the ringer. The only issue I've had is that the clip is pretty darn fragile. Do you have any custom clips that are more robust? Boker replaced my broken clip, don't worry.
No Flame Finish? :-(
