Sure, but force is a rate of energy transfer (or impulse applied). So if you push a car as hard as you can, whether you push for 5 seconds or 10 seconds, you are exerting the same force for that duration. But you applied a different total impulse to the car (doing a different amount of work by presumably pushing the car twice as far by pushing twice as long). One way to remember this terminology is that the 'force' of gravity applies continuously at some rate, not as a total amount of energy transferred. There are also some good short little sites you can find by searching for "force impulse momentum" that handle it better than I'm going to in a forum post. And with math, which makes them cooler automatically.
ArsenicDroneOK, not acceleration, nor force, nor impulse nor momentum.
What you are looking for when trying to compute the "ability to make a damage" of a flying thing is Kinetic energy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_energy
Momentum is also your friend but useful for another purposes like computing the recoil forces and so on.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momentum
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recoil
The often misunderstood difference between kinetic energy and momentum is that the first benefits from higher speed over potentially higher weight. Imagine a very heavy object moving very slowly like a locomotive going only at 0.1 kmh. It has a very big momentum (m*v). It will easily push you away a hundred of meters before it stops but it will not hurt you. On the other hand, imagine a bullet. Only a few grams of metal but flying twice as fast as the sound. It will not push or throw you away like you see it in movies but it will kill you for sure. Its momentum is relatively small but it has a very big kinetic energy ((m*v^2)/2) because of the very high speed.
Moonsand1Wouldn't the kill range depend on what your firing? I've only seen Q-tips lethal up to 22 feet, but Toothpicks are usually at least 30 with the proper equipment.
Can't wait to see someone sues Massdrop because he lost an eye. This is a weapon. Whoever recommended or approved it on the site should be fired. So stupid!
It is on the news: even the Chinese bans it. You can imagine how bad an idea it is.
Mr.Shopper_iI feel bad for your kids. That's the problem with so many people today, no one is taught or teaches their kids safety and/or responsibility. Just shelter them, and hide them from the world and they will grow up to be neurotic entitled brats.
Your solution to a potentially dangerous toy is, instead of teaching a child some responsibility and safety, sue everyone and strip them of their livelihood.
You sir, are the problem.
If anyone in the UK is looking to buy one of these Toothpick Crossbows you'll just be wasting your money. UK Customs won’t let them through as it’s classed as an offensive weapon.
I bought the exact same item from another site for £11.99, I can see why there are so many dissatisfied buyers below. At the price I paid I'm not expecting Rolls Royce quality more like Del Boy Reliant Van and from the pictures it looks like I'm right.
Right! I'm off to search for a LAH Mini 4s.
Man you just have no idea what a troll is do you? Bet you'd call someone that doesn't like the same condiments as you a troll. Seriously, I really don't understand why you're actually surprised someone is warning others of a product he thinks is a ripoff, or at the very least low value

MrMustardi know exactly what a troll is ...and his and YOUR comments are proving that definition to be true. the fact you miss his whole history..says that as well. youre done.
lobsterFairly certain this was developed by the Chinese version of Irwin Mainway.

The following video includes a temple check (because there is nothing like running with this thing), wearing a safety glove, and full forensic lab gear (as you wouldn't want to introduce measurement error while checking the velocity).

Just got mine today, the packaging was low quality, something I'd expect of some overworked Ebay seller in China. Let's not forget that the package came 2 days late, without a tracking ID, and we didn't receive any updates on shipment until Massdrop, not Uncommon Carry, was ready to apologize.
The stand has scratches on it and the toy itself has lost a bit of (black) paint as it seems to be scratched as well.
The screw that holds the toothpick holder (steel bar on top) seems to be inserted improperly at an angle, and you can't remove it as the screw threads don't match the screw hole; this means that it just gets pushed right back in as you try to unscrew it. Because of this, the holder has to be readjusted every 10 shots. The holder itself has a strange coat on top that has the color of rust, but doesn't feel like it. Meanwhile on the models they advertised to us with seem to have fitting screws and no strange coats
The leg that holds the front end of the crossbow has a gap that isn't wide enough, and so the toy doesn't fit.
I don't appreciate the fact that they preassemble the crossbow, either, especially given their shoddy shipping and handling practices.
Because the crossbow was meant to be used with toothpicks and possibly cotton tipped swabs (Q-tips), the toothpick doesn't always sit straight in the crossbow, which makes those unaligned shots wildly inaccurate.
I also wish there was a rear sight post, as I don't think it makes sense to use a toothpick holder, which moves slightly with each firing and has to be adjusted to fit different shots, as a rear sight post.
Despite all of this, the crossbow seems to work as intended and is strong enough to get a toothpick halfway through the box it came in.
If you do get one in a future drop, I recommend you get it in silver, as any scratches will be less visible.
The relatively high asking price of $30 ($45 MSRP) is going into the single block of steel they mill the main body from, apparently, as there is no quality control to speak of. It's no wonder that they offer no refunds according to this site, (https://www.touchofmodern.com/sales/uncommoncarry/bowman-toothpick-crossbow).
Hopefully, Uncommon Carry will use the money gained from this drop to refine their process, shipping and handling, quality control, etc.
Hopefully, Massdrop will use the money gained from this drop to refine their choice in drop partners and get their shit together, because I hear people say that Massdrop doesn't care anymore.
