I'm new to the Amp scene, can someone explain the point of an amp for headphones?

confusedAnything that has a headphone/audio out is a amplifier--most modern ones, like on a computer's motherboard have DACs as well. Amplifiers amplify sound--they add volume. Independent amps can provide more volume. So, if your headphones don't reach the volume you wish, they might need an amp. Note: They do not increase sound quality. Tube amps are rather old technology--but there's nothing wrong with them. They can be more powerful as they run a more powerful (less efficient) amp section than most "solid-state" amps do. Some tubes can bring a darker/warmer sound, meaning more bass and mids.
