I've had the Corbett I S (orange) for about a week now. I'm using it connected to a google Pixel XL via bluetooth. On my first use, I noticed the audio is cutting out (skipping?) for a quarter second or so every minute or two.
I have tried moving my phone around. It skips right next to the speaker. It skips far away from the speaker. It skips while streaming. It skips while playing downloaded files.
Then I updated the firmware to 2017-06-16, which provided a more attractive "the bluetooth is now connected" voice. But didn't do anything to fix the skipping/cutting out.
Is this an issue anybody else is aware of? And does anybody have advice on how to fix it?
Levi8thanI had a pixel XL and it had difficulties with other bluetooth speakers, its the phone, it has a terrible bluetooth connection. Sometimes turning WiFi off helps, but overall there isn't much you can do.
I am VERY disappointed in this drop... I was super psyched for it to get here, but when it did, all I got was disappointment. The max volume is pitiful -- my $30 Oontz Angle (also waterproof, but smaller and cheaper) is louder. The sound signature is awful -- if your media player of choice doesn't feature an equalizer, as is the case with many, the horrible balance is intolerable. But such is life. Sometimes backing the new kid on the block just ends up with you both being beat up.
Also, I don't need to hear five sentences about bluetooth being ready for connection or a sweeping orchestral score every time I turn it on or off. And the off sound is the same as the on sound. Why? Two ascending beeps when turning it on, two descending when turning it off. "Bluetooth mode" is fine, "waiting for connection" is unnecessary -- just beep when a device connects.
Companies need to stop putting crappy speaker phones into these speakers. The mics are never good enough to pick up your voice for things like Siri, and the quality of voice is never as good as the multiple mics that most new phones have built in. When I'm on the other side of the room, and my phone is in my pocket. I don't want to have to use a device in the next room I happened to be listening to music earlier.
Stop putting telephone speakers in these things, or make a way to disable the mic.
Also, companies need to make these with replaceable batteries. I have a few speakers that I now can only use when plugged into power because the batteries are worn out. And the only way to replace them would be to take a dremel tool to them and split them apart. Which would mean they're no longer waterproof, and opening the box would probably also kill the bass response of the speaker. If this one can have it's battery replaced I'd consider it.
ohlyverPerhaps, but not iOS. Perhaps Apple should do this, but fact is they don't.
Also, there's no reason a speaker has to have a Mic. It causes more problems than it solves for many people. Enough people that it's time the designers of these things start accommodating the need of this large userbase.
NorthernVenomAll,
We have sold out all Gen 1 Corbett last fall.
All I S are 2nd Gen models. Comparing to 1st, it has more battery capacity and software features, improves a few parts quality, like carabiner and rubber sleeve thickness.
Mini is new, but shares the same software features offered by I S.
Ok...this took some serious beating my head into the wall to figure out but I've found a solution to the "Stereo Mode" problem.
Step 1.) We're just gonna go back to the beginning so go into your device's Bluetooth settings and if you've got both stereos connected just go ahead and hit "Forget This Device" for both speakers. I'm using an iPhone and it can't seem to differentiate between the two speakers. Just lists each speaker as "Timolabs Corbett I Mini". So go under each one and hit "Forget This Device". Now the "Timolabs Corbett I Mini" should NOT appear in your Bluetooth My Devices screen.
Step 2.) Turn on the first speaker. (It might be a good idea to mark each speaker so that you won't have to repeat this process each time. Whichever speaker is gonna be your main speaker, aka left speaker, aka the one you turn on first. I'm gonna mark mine with a discreet "L") Anyway turn on your main speaker. Now "Timolabs Corbett I Mini" will appear in your Bluetooth My Devices list. Go ahead and choose that so the speaker pairs with your device. So far so good.
Step 3.) This is where everything would fall apart. When you turn on the 2nd speaker (aka the right speaker) it too will appear in your My Devices list. DON'T CHOOSE IT!!!! Leave it alone. At this point you can set your device down. Only your first speaker should be paired with your device. I say again. Only your first speaker should be paired with your device. Once you've turned on the 2nd speaker go back to the first speaker and hold down the "play/pause/answer call/link" button. In a few seconds you should hear those glorious words "Stereo Connected".
Note....the main thing here is to only link the first speaker to your device. DO NOT LINK THE 2ND SPEAKER TO YOUR DEVICE. Think of it this way. Speaker 1, aka the main speaker, aka Captain Picard aka Mr. Left links to your device. Speaker 2, aka the secondary speaker, aka Commander Riker, aka Mr. Right links to Speaker 1.
Hope that either this helps, or that you're all just a lot smarter than me.
glennacjust over half the wattage, lower water resistance, no multi-speaker stereo, no usb audio, no micro-sd playback, no carrying hook, why is the anker winning exactly?
So I just sent an Email to support@timolabs.com for an RMA request, I have recommended this speaker to multiple friends and THREE speakers were purchased because of my recommendation. I wish to get a replacement speaker, the Carabiner broke on mine.
BJenki had a similar issue, I contacted their support and sent them a picture and my receipt, and had a replacement on its way the next day, with 2-day shipping.
Received mine so here's my review. The build quality is very impressive and the battery life lasts thru my 10 hour shifts. The audio quality is great and has deeply satisfying bass buzz. The dimensions great although admittedly it's width makes it less easy to stow away. I would recommend these speakers to my friends.
